Record-breaking Drag Bus?

A press release from VW UK:

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090611.006/1953-vw-bus-breaks-world-record-for-f...

A couple of mistakes in there, unfortunately. 1953 Kombis did not have 53-bhp 1600cc engines - they didn't come in until 1968. Early Kombis had 1100cc, then 1200cc, engines.

Also the 'quarter mile world record for all VW Vans' is not 12.5 seconds. The famous turbo drag bus of Dave and Judy Kawell ran a 10.4 at 128 mph in 1987. See http://www.kawellracing.com/racebus.html

hey Phil, i just read the 1st link and it says "Northamptonshire's Santa Pod Raceway played host to the time trial, which became a world record for a naturally-aspirated VW van according to VW UK. The quarter-mile record for all Volkswagen vans is 12.5 seconds, but maybe not for long."

they claim its the fastest NATURALLY ASPIRATED vw van, but on the other hand they did mess up in stating that the overall world record for a vw van is 12.5 seconds.....

i dont think the track is wet, i think its the traction compound on the track surface that gives it that appearance. also i dont know of many tracks that would let you run in the wet, waaayyy to dangerous.

let me tell you my learned friend..the track is wet,pod has a compound on it but not that thick..& yes we raced in the wet[ for years]..i don't have enough fingers & toes to count the amount of times that happened..it's the nature of the beast unfortunately in the uk, you either get very sunburnt or very wet at pod...my moneys on the latter...lol...:lol:
