feedback on VW Touareg??

Well the Beetle is gone and I feeling a little weird not having a VW in the garage anymore. This is on top of the fact that it is time to update the family car, we are considering the 3.2 V6 Touareg.

Does anyone on here own one or heard any bad things? Feedback appreciatted.

Cheers

I have had one as a loan car and was very happy with it. I also drove one around the test track at Wolfsburg and it blew me away with how capable it is as a 4wd. Very smooth to drive as well.

Thanks Dean

How heavy on fuel is it? The review I am reading say around 13.6L/100km

......currently driving a 4.6 Litre V8 HSE Range Rover which is like 19L/100km, so hoping it will be an improvement!!

My mate was looking at a new 4WD

Ended up with the new Land Cruiser

he needed to tow and the Toe-rag just didnt cut the mustard
when you start talking diesel the $$$ just start getting ridiculous

A friend does have the the petrol and is peeved on the trade in he was offered when he wanted to trade up to the diesel
$20kish for a 18month old car

Wouldnt be expecting much better
especially round the city
maybe is cruising up and down the F3

Have a look at the real meaning of "Pajero", and thats about all the fun you will have driving it.

Have not driven but have heard V6 is under powered and heavy on fuel and if cash permits go for the diesel or if not there are many other Euro diesels to choose from even if 2nd hand.

Isnt the Porsche Cayenne low end diesel model just a turbo version of this same engine?

How many sets of lights does it take a $229k Carrera S to learn? UPDATE: Cayman S, M3, B4 now added to the list.

My unbiased opinion avoid the Touareg upto 2007MY the early ones have electronic gremlins that can creep up. (transmission etc).
[We had one at work with Trans probs (I work for an independent garage)]

I love VWs there is no doubt about it; but as another VW Enthusiast talking to another I would not recomend a Touareg unless it has excellent service history and has been scanned by an independent VW specialist for fault codes.

A friend of mine who worked for FordMoCo and Nissan gets reports on internal recalls from all manufacturers and the Touareg did not rate highly (this was 2-3 years ago before the facelift).

Hey dude have worked on many touaregs i can say that they are a good car overall but they are heavy on brakes and tyres. As far as the electrical side of things go the earlier ones a had a recall 90D7 for the airbag wiring plugs under the seat which would cause a light to come up on the dash, transmission playing up etc all these problems would not happen if the recall was carried out most of the time .The v6 3.2 in a very tough motor with not really many problems at all as this comes out of the r32 golf . To review the car i would say to keep cost down get it serviced at a good aftermarket vw workshop as dealers are way to much money the car will average round 16l round town and 13ish on the highway but the cars weighs round the 3000kg mark so it will be heavy on fuel..at the end of the day its up to you what you want to do..

Will having a Touareg in the garage cure that weird feeling? Beyond the grille ornament it has nothing in common with a Beetle.

The Touareg won Overlander Magazine's 4WD of The Year award in 2003. Yes the VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne are 'sister' vehicles, based on the same platform and bodyshell, and both made in VW's plant in Slovakia. The Audi Q7 also uses the same platform. Great vehicle but a bit of overkill for a family vehicle. Do you expect to do a lot of off-road driving? Maybe the smaller Tiguan might be more suitable?

Take one for a test drive and see what you think. Make sure you tell the VW dealer that you are a VW club member and post on VW forums.

Also consider a VW Caravelle or Multivan for a family vehicle, or a Passat wagon. Even a Golf is much roomier inside, with a far more useful boot, than a Beetle ever was. It's a bit strange to be comparing new VWs with a model not sold here for 32 years.

By a Subaru Tribeca 7 Seat Luxury, a great well equipeed car for the price and you will be able to afford to buy yourself another 1303 or project.

Everyone wins.

Cheers,

David
