EFI Throttle linkage Problem (NOW WITH DESCRIPTIVE PICS!!!!)
Not sure were to post this question but here it goes!!
I have quite tall manifolds from a set of twin IDF webers and have nearly complete a FI conversion. I have a set of injection perfection throttle
bodies http://www.injectionperfection.com.au/content/view/21/71/ (didn't pay as much as stated thankfully). Great bolt on TBs.
THE PROBLEM: It's for a manx buggy, the tall manifolds are port matched to TBs and to my CB performance wedge-ported heads (so want to keep them +
tall = more torque apparently!!) but i'm having difficulty with throttle linkage.
I have a hex bar linkage and a scat pivot linkage from carby setups. Due to it being a manx buggy there's not much room above the TB because of the
body combined with the tall manifolds = difficulty with crossbar linkage. ALSO because of the tall manifolds the pivot linkage is "too low" and it
doesn't turn the throttle arms in the opposite directions (needs clockwise on left and counter-clockwise on right/drivers side!!!).
What should i do!!!!?!????????
This is the last major difficulty i have with my conversion. Is there somewhere in sydney that does custom throttle linkage work like this that i
should be chatting to (Carby services at burwood perhaps)?????? been on efihardware.com.au and they have the gear but not the bracketry to mate to the
new TBs (need to talk with the guys from injection perfection too but thought i'd chat to you all!!!!)
Has anyone tried the Berg Fan Shroud Mounted throttle linkages?????????
Any help would be greatly appreciated - so close but soooooooo far!!!!.
Marty

Hi
I may not have read your problem correctly, but you said "(and it doesn't turn the throttle arms in the opposite directions (needs clockwise on left
and counter-clockwise on right/drivers side!!!)."
All carburettors turn the same way, to get a left and right opening you normally turn one carburetor around, say an IDA or similar, you have all the
mixture screws on the fan housing side, not the the left carburettor with the mixture screws facing the fan housing and the right mixture screws
facing out wards.

Cables could be trouble - they tend to become "sticky". They are about as nice as Tiltadoors!

I made twin bike cables for my carbs when I had the blowers on. They worrked fine and were dead easy to sync.
Now I have EFI, I stuck with the standard Ford cables in a twin setup.
If it was OK for them in 87 and they still work
I figure they will last me a while.
OEM gave up on linkages in the 70's

yeah, somewhere i have seen a "splitter" box that took the main accelerator cable and split for two out the other side........not sure if it was a
motorbike accesory or mountain bike, but this would be handy if you go that route

I run my EFI to the throttle using a cable through a 8 mm SS tube
works well with a nice smooth radius and a few small bends to align the tube to the stock opening and to the throttle body butterfly have added a
bit of oil n grease t othe inside of the tube make it run SM OOT TH

I had a look at
torana handbrake cable splitter
or a freestyle bmx brake cable splitter off the neck swash plate.
in the end just mounted the cables and used a cable clamp to join the 3 together

CSP centre pull linkage, works with CB big beef manifolds, and is the easiest linkage to sync.
If you go with cables, show us some pics.

Hey everyone, thanks for the suggestions and advise.
Tried fitting up the Scat centre pull linkage and as thought couldn't get enough angle on the right side to come even close to the throttle arm as it
would hit the bottom of the alternator as it travels under it. (SEE PIC)
In the pic you can see how far the right throttle body sits towards the rear of the car, this looks to be much further than i've seen on other cars
in pics. Is there a problem?? My Manifolds are identical, should they be???????
Hopefully the pics help everyone understand what problems i'm having. Any further suggestions before i think about a gene berg shroud mounted
unit????

note that the manifold aren't bolted up tight hence the slight lean in the pics that i didn't have enough hands to hold the camera, scat linkage arm
and manifold/throttle body.
See pic 'from left to right 2 you (the last one) you can see how far rear-ward the right manifold and throttle body are, is this normal???
Is there 'sides' to manifolds, heads etc etc??????? as had to mod the old empi hex bar linkage when i put it on this new engine!!!!!

This is the pic (wouldn't fit in last post!!!) AND i did have it rotated when i uploaded it so sorry if anyone gets a sore neck (tilt head right)
Because of this position difference i'm a little worried about
a) this scat linkage working
b) even a berg shroud mounted one working
c) is there a prob with the manifold or head that i have on that right (drivers) side????

The reason for the above is because your using non offset manifolds.
As I said above CSP linkage works with these manifolds, that is what I'm using on one of my dubs on the other one I'm using the Scat linkage.
I had the same problem as you, only in a different place. I had to bend the passenger side linkage arm to work with a stock fanshroud, I bent it under
the airhorn for the heater. That might work for you.

Ahhhh, I just noticed why your having problems.
The throttle plates are higher in the throttle body, compared to carbs, where the throttle plates are at the bottom, closer to the manifold.
Crossbar linkage may be your best bet.
