73 Beetle Wiring

Hi Guys

Im wiring up my 73 Beetle 1300 and am going by the wiring diagram in a workshop manual.

Now the wiring diagram has the headlight circuit coming out of the headlight switch and into the fuse box and then to the headlights.

Is this correct as there is no relay in the circuit and the fuse is 8 amps. Im not an expert but im very capable and running high current draw stuff like starter motors and headlights without a relay isnt a good idea.

Anyone have an opinion.

Thanks Trev

The headlight relay is a switching relay, this is triggered by the high/low switch to swap beams, obviously if you want to lessen the load on the switch and get more direct power to the lights you can also put another relay for high & low beams into the circuit.
