USA INVITATION

I have decided to go to the US in mid Oct for 2 weeks and would like to invite any person that has not been or would like to go again to travel with me . I will be leaving on Saturday October 17 and returning on Sunday November 1 . We will be flying into and out of Los Angeles and will be going directly to Pomona Swap meet on the first weekend . We will have 2 weeks of parts shopping , sightseeing and anything else we can fit in during the 2 week visit . On the last weekend we will also take in the final drag race meeting of the year at Fontana raceway . This event is huge with a swapmeet , show and 1/4 mile racing on the weekend . This will be my 9th visit to the US so I have many contacts and know my way around and therefore will be an action packed 2 weeks . Air fares at the moment are $ 869 on numerous airlines and we will be flying direct from Sydney to LA . You will need around $ 100 per day that will more than cover the car hire / accomodation / food and drinks . On top of the $1500 for the entire trip to survive on , you will need parts money , this is your call and depends on your budget . I need #'s by this Friday the 24th July to book the airfares only . You will need a current passport and the funds for the airfare at this stage , thanks ROD , 02-42729920 .

Hi Rod,
I'm already over here (Venice) and will be until the end of the year. I hope it's not cheeky of me, but I'd love to catch-up with your group once you arrive to trawl some shows, socialize and get involved in shipping some parts home.
Maybe a BBQ night at my place near Venice Beach one evening could be on your calender?

What part of town will you guys be staying in?
I have a car and I'm off work for the next couple of months due to a recent operation. I'm looking forward to having some Australia based VW nuts to hang-out with over here for awhile.

G'DAY GUYS , I am way too busy organising things here so if you need or want sometiing you had better call me . There are 8 guys here with me and tomorrow we will be heading out to Irwindale to catch the Hot vw's drag day , show and swap meet . Today we were in Mexico and the guys are feeling a little lucky that we live in such a great country . Yesterday we called in to Pauter Machine and Mario was ready to leave for a race in Vegas this week end with a new combination - Turbo 3.4L , 10.5 comp 41 psi boost and over 10000 rpm's . this is in his 100 yrd sand car and 2.82 seconds @ 122 mph .
We will head for Vegas on Monday and I will post another up-date . Pomona swapmeet was really big , I think I ended up wth about 18 sets of carbs , a couple of berg 5 speeds , a couple of complete turbo kits and a truck load of other shit ,talk to ya soon , ROD.

Just a quick up-date , My Mate Jesse has a std vw cast headed 2276cc engine that I saw on the dyno this week that made 261 hp . This engine is now installed in Shawn Geers street car and will be raced today at the drag day . I will keep you informed on the times it will do in a full bodied steel street car . We will also head out to Vegas this afternoon to see how Mario is going at the sand drag meeting . Last night we were at the Irwinedale speedway to see a meeting in which there were 33 nascar trucks competing in a 100 lap race , this was a tared track and speeds of over 110 mph on the 1/2 mile oval with lap times of around 19 seconds , ROD .

Well , drag day was good . Jesse ran a 7.18 in a loan car first day out and was happy . The Red baron ran a 5.67 on the first pass and oiled the track from start to finish and Roger Crawford ran a 5.71 with a 100 shot of nitrous on the first pass . Jimmy Larson said that they would hit it with 200 at the end of the day .We left early for the drive to Vegas and am now relaxing by the pool for the next 48 hrs . The swap meet was also good and Davo now owns a complete draw through turbo kit for his buggy wether he likes it or not . ROD.

LAST UP-DATE

Today we were at the Dyno day held at Rancho Transaxles in Fullerton . Great day , no mishaps and all looks good for the final drag meeting of the year in Fontana tomorrow. Best of day went to Eric Madson in the orange Ghia with 767hp at the wheels with Eric Calabrese in the red baron with a 665 run . I also met Richie from the UK in his RHD bug vert now on methanol with a little under 400 at the wheels . All of these runs were done in 3rd gear on a transportable dyno , incredible to see . I will post some info on the 1/4 mile racing from Fontana if I can before I head home with at least 4 extremely heavy bags , ROD.
