[FS - VIC] Original MK1 GTI

My hopes of buying a house with a decent garage to work on my GTi have evaporated and I've moved into a small terrace without off-street parking. So it is with great regret that I'm now having to face facts and sell-up.

1979, 1.8l & mech fuel injection, it's in very original condition and was running up until 12 months ago. Have a Bora as our daily driver and was overseas for a couple of months, so just hadn't gotten round to driving the GTi for a while so I think the battery has just died.

The body's quite straight, but paint has suffered from time in the sun and some petrol damage (before I got it). Also lost a bit of trim off the driver's door and the left wing mirror.

It's registered until August and would really like it to go to someone who's going to look after it and restore it to former glory. Will consider offers around $4000.

Just paid 12 months rego tonight. Attached is an old photo. PM me.

Dave

This not an original GTI, Mk1s were never imported into Australia.

This one doesnt have the red trim around the grill, and I bet the interior is basic. GTi's were never sold in this colour either. I imagine the engine has been upgraded and a GTI badge stuck on the grill.

For those interested: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newforum/upload/showthread.php?t=34401

It's seems it's probably an uncommon (for Oz) GLi not a genuine GTi. It's getting the attention it needs though.

EDIT: the golf on the far right in my sig is a genuine GTI, and it won SA DOVW best MK1 (or whatever the category was). I thought my beast (next to it) was in the running too!

Interestingly seller states he knows its a GLI and will be restoring it as a GTi back in May 2008 but tries to sell it on here as a genuine Mk1 GTI in 2009. ?

I hope the person who bought it knows it isnt real?

ringoschariot,

I think you may be confused - I never posted anything in May 2008. I corrected the post on vwwatercooled when this issue was discussed. The original advertisement was correct to the best of my knowledge.

The guys who bought it are well aware of the aspects that are GTI and those that aren't.
