Seat belt advice needed

Well with two kids I need seat belts.

64 Beetle

Any advice, ideas or thoughts?

I hate to ask but to get a drive I need to give in to the leader of the opposition who is demanding safety in the back seats.

Hi DUB64. I've just started (sort of) on a 1970 bug and have had a bit of a look at the rear seat belt issue today. I think It'll either be a floor mounted retractor with a pivot at shoulder height in the rear pillar (reinforced of course) or frame up a complete parcel shelf and run the retractor unit in the parcel shelf itself like in a late 90's commodore. I think the floor mount would be the easiest as long as I can get enough strength into the C-pillar for the pivot to anchor to. Does that make sense?

i put lap sashes in the backof my '60 beetle, I just drilled 2 holes through the floor and reinforced them with some 5mm plate and i also used the seat mount bolt holes to attach the lap sash

They can be installed by anyone but they do need to be inspected to make sure they're safe.

Matt, did you use lap/sash, or just lap? If it's lap sash, where did you mount the top part of the belt that goes over your shoulder? Mine has no mounts up there, that's all.

I got 2 kids....and use lapbelts with restraints. Cost $70 to fit.

Not sure where you are, but here's a list of fitters in VIC

Where are you Dub64,I would suggest a couple of child harnesses which mount above the rear seat just under the window, these are used in conjunction with a lap belt. Do yourself a favour and go to a restraint fitting station for the fitment. Cheers Les.
