Horn Wiring
Is there a beter way of wiring up the horn than just having the wires run out of the steering column near the brake master-cylcinder to the horn???
As it wraps it has to move alot when going from full-lock to full-lock with lots of wire hanging around in the meantime!!!!!
Just curious to see if there's a better way or someone come up with something????

If it's wrapping around like that it's wired wrong in the first place!! The wire which runs down the shaft is the earth wire and it connects to a
spade terminal on the coupling. The positive wire runs from fuse box straight to the horn. No excess wire at all.

Maybe its wired for air horns or Non VW horns...
Mine has the wire out the end and to My air horn relay..
and it gets disconnected now & then.... lol
I have a pushbutton under the dash for the VW horn..
I meant to wire then around the other way.... lol
I will one day....
should be as 1500S said....
the VW horn is connected to Power with the ignition ON
when you press the button , it earths out the Horn....
which makes it BEEP...
so, if the wire down the centre...
or the horn button in the steering wheel grounds out...
the Horn Goes... and goes...
similar thing If a Ford or Holden etc horn is used...
[ones with one terminal]

hmmm, will have a close look at a wiring diagram!!!!
Getting the buggy re-wired, so it must have been wired wrongly in the first place!!!!!
Where does the positive wire enter the steering column to track up to the horn button??? (Admittedly i have an after market steering wheel and horn
but original column).

Once again, the positive wire doesn't come anywhere near the column! It is the negative or earth wire which comes through the steering shaft to the
horn button.
Have a look at which may give you an idea as you don't say what myear column you are using.

Hi it looks like i had a similar understand recently...
From the fuse box run a positive wire to the horn (ACC only if that what you want) then from the horn run an earth wire to the corresponding wire that
is attached to the indicator stalk, that should meet the little tab that touches on the metal ring at the back of the steering wheel boss -
aftermarket or not - then the final wire runs from the horn button, down the shaft to the theering shaft bolt that mounts the steerig box to the
coupling hence forming a solid earth.

Probably easier to wire up a push button switch to a relay which switches on the Horn...
You can use the very small $2 push button switches from DSE
to activate the relay which then turns on the horn...
