1800 heads fit 1600?
Gday,
I was just wondering how much modification is needed to fit 1800 heads to a 1600?
And can I use the 1800 pistons and barrels for my 1600?
Cheers Joel.

Also what is needed to fit a type IV into my 73 Panel which previously had a 1600?
I dont think I need to do much because the 1600 bolts up to the same bracket as a type IV!
I think thats because its a 73.

what the hell? a type 4 engine won't fit in a 73 ? Can someone exaplain this to me and Joel.... It was my unnderstanding that from August-ish 71 the
engine bays were made wider to allow for the Type 4 engines...and therefore it should fit with little trouble. May need to change some mounts
perhaps... but nothing drastic. I don't understand. Someone please clear it up for us?

bah dont listen to birch
he right about the heads not fitting but all 72 and later kombis have engine bays that take type4 engines
some were fitted with 1600 engines (mainly panels and single cabs) and just had some really large breast plate tin like the one pictured above.
so long and short yes a type4 will fit if its after 71
u may just need to swap the input shafts if its a 1600 box as type1 engines use shorter ones
Dave butler will be able to confirm that
