front pulley

Hi Guys

Dumb question, where is the seal on the front pulley of a VW motor.

Surely that slinger cant be the only thing there to stop the oil coming out.

depending on what the motor is used for... alot of offroad vw's concerned with dust and sand issues... get something called a 'sand seal' to go on the front crank pulley to prevent dirt entering. (rather than issues of oil leaking)

Some and seals require machining... But the one i got... thats readily available... is an oil seal mounted on a circular aluminium sleeve, that you just tap in and it seals the crankshaft. The one i got however... requires a sand seal pulley to accomodate the extra space the seal consumes. they aren't exy at all.

If you ask me... its cheap insurance :tu:

But i mean... these vw engines have been around for the last 40+ yrs without them... so it depends how protective you wanna be.

Bloody hell lol

I would never have ever thought about putting an engine together with out a front seal. Maybe try that on the Holdens lol

Thanks Guys

hahahaha

No way, you put a new seal and a new balancer and the Holdens still leak lol, without a seal it would be like no sump plug.
