Long and short swing asxles
Hi,
I'm sure this has been discussed a few times. I have a 1500 transmission in a manx clone but tyres stick out past the body in the rear.
I have read somewhere that there are short and long swing axles. What are the difference in lengths? What years were the different axles on cars? Is
it worth looking into cahnging them or change the wheel size at rear meaning i need to find new rims.
Any advantages or disadvatages for having either long or short axles?
Thanks

Dave is correct.
The axle and tube are 29mm shorter,
plus the spine is 15mm shorter too,
so this 15mm will have to be machined off the drums' snout, to fit onto the early axles.

Hi
The actual tubes are all the same lenght, its the cast bit on the end that varies in lenght and the axle of course. They're actually made in two
pieces and after a pin has been removed the tube and end casting can be pressed apart, cunning Germans.
