Queensland indicator rules

Hiya,

I've 59 shell on a 64 pan. Now am I right in thinking that because of the chassis number being a 64 then the indicators will need to be in 64 configuration? i.e. on top of front wings and in the rear lenses?

If so can I get away with indicators hidden behind the horn grills?

Cheers ;)

Hi

they don't have to be genuine VW blinkers...

but blinkers [by law] have to be able to be seen by the car on Your Right or Left...

so having blinkers behind the horn grills won't be legal..

they also have to be towards the sides of the car..
not too far towards the centre...

easiest way is to use harley davison type blinkers on the front..
as are used on many early beetles..

If You are using early pre blinker tail lamps..
You can use the harley blinkers on the back too...
or any tail lamps with reflectors You like....

I prefer VW lights when it comes to tail lamps and front blinkers... but NOT headlights...lol... in My 68 beetle...

cheers

LEE

I think that you manufacture plate on the body will make a 59 when registered, The Qld main roads have no idea when its comes to the pan number and its year of manufacture. Call it a 59 and it will be a 59. Also use a mobile roadworthy cert guy as they are no way near a strict when it comes to checking it out.

Hi

I put a 72 pan under my 73, its makes a huge difference in NSW as to what can be done legally to a car, the engineer said the pan determines the year of the car, but Qld mains would have no idea in this area.

Hmm, OK. So I know my shell is a 59 but it no longer has the chassis plate near the wheel well under the bonnet and only has the chassis number on the later pan, so how can I register as a 59? Does QLD transport even care?

I've already the indicator holes in the front wings but wanted to weld em up for a smoother look. also not a fan of the 'add on' indicators

The Australian Design rules have an angle of sight for front and rear lamps,or you can be like a lot of Boofheads and hide them so no one can ever see them and then bellow like a cut pig when someone runs into you because they cant see what you are intending to do.Manufacturers put light in a position for a reason, usually for the safety of other road users. The latest hyundai getz and some of the mazdas are immune to this.

Hmm, quite right. Was just a though as the early front wings do look nice without the indicators perched on them. I don't mind really cos I quite like the fatter late ones compared to the slim early ones I just fancied some noice smooth wings :)

You can get small round or square blinkers and fit them on Your bumpers or on the front of the guards...

I do think the cheap harley ones do the job OK and do look OK
many people have them on the front and the rear
connected to the bumper brackets...
so they don't have to be permanent...
the blinkers inside the headlamps aren;'t legal either...

but really is down to whoever passes the car...
One inspector can be a stickler for the rules..
and another doesn't really care... so long as the lights are there and they do work..

I do prefer to be legal - and to be seen...

I am resiting the front indicators on the buggy, I have used the side indicators of a Falcon and mounted them directly over the front wheels, only temp at the moment but will stay there as they look the part and fit into the body contours like I am after.

Think I'll stick with the stock ones. I like trying to keep the outside looking period. Underneath is a different matter ;)

Good decision,I wasn't bagging just stating the facts as a lot of these new models are impossible to see until you are in the roundabout with them and then have to make a rash decision,I do not know how they pass the ADR's or whether a lot of dollars change hands.(no that would not happen) Cheers Les

this is true...
the blinkers on His truck weren't fast enough..... LOL...

legally .. the are supposed to flash at a certain rate...
