Suspension
My vintage VW has been giving me a bit of trouble lately. The suspension at the front is creaky - I had it lowered by AVW Performance Centre with
anti-sway bars 5 years ago.
Not exactly sure whats wrong with it. I had it checked by another VW mechanic who said it was a lack of lube - but after two lube jobs in 1 year - the
problem is still creaky. Each time I drive over a bump or turn - I hear something creaking away.
I'm just wondering whether I should send it to AVWPC or send it to Peddlers Suspension.
Comments anyone?

AVWPC. definately not pedders. What year is it, if early, king and link pin style, the need grease every 5000km and if left for a long period without
service can block the grease channels to the king pins. Simple job to raise the car off the ground and grease the 8 grease points, even adjust the
link pins, it's not rocket science, and a good idea as this should be done at the same service interval.

Its a mid- 1960s model. I had it sitting idle for over 3 years from 2004 - 2005, and 2007 when I went overseas for work. What exactly blocks the
grease channels to the king pins? Is it the old hardened grease? I assume that AVWPC would have a better idea of suspension issues with VWs as they
deal with them on a regular basis yeah?

If the suspension checks out OK, have a good look at the frame-head. They tend to crack after a while, but can be re-welded successfully.

Yep, and metal filings because it wasn't lubed!!

Great news! Mick from Australian VW Performance Centre fixed the problem within the hour!!!! Woohoo!!!!
And it was relatively cheap!!! woohoo x10.
Mick found that the screws holding the front end (if I remember correctly) were loose - they were tighten and now all the creaky and squeaky sounds
are all gone. And the steering is now firm and tight.
All good now!
