85.95 RINGS

i hope i am not Robinson Cruso here, when i pulled my 1600DP top end apart i found forged pistons marked and measured at 85.95 in matching barrels. i have reassembled
with stock size 85.5mm rings because that's all i could find.
does anyone know where these pistons may have come from and where the hell do i get rings the correct size for them?Sorry no pics but from memory they were Mahle.

That's 0.5 mm oversize on the piston so by puting standard rings in you have simulated a set of worn out rings! Too much gap and most likely will be out of round.

As a rule of thumb over the years the gap was .004" per inch of diameter and 1500s is right you have achieved nothing. You will need to get a set of .5mm o/s rings.

Thanks for the replies, I realise the gap is too big. I need to source over size rings.
The engine is just a stop gap untill the minister of finance gives me a better VW budget:(
