Engine cooling/oil temp???


Hey just been wondering how some guys get away with out any form of cooling/alternator on there engines?? what is an exceptable oil temp? and if you run with no fan is it possable to keep oil temp in correct temp range?? all questions in regaurd to drag strip only. cheers

Hi Andrew,
I run methanol, and my oil temp never gets real hot.
In fact I dont even hav a temp guage,
but on the dyno, it "seemed" hot, but the temp gun he had said 70 degrees sump temp.

A lot of guys that run petrol based fuel run electric fans or tow back from each run.
Some just run a 4 or 5" 'dry sump size' pulley,
and an oil cooler will help,
but I think that would be just one more thing to go wrong.
...especially in Tassie where it is generally cool weather!

I always use 100 dgrees C as a turning point for oil temp.
Most oils can handle much more,
but I would imagine power goes down around that point,
and VW said the mag cases deteriorate after about 115 degrees.
