Burnt twice last month with E- Bay auction Wins...

Well, I have been lucky with E- bay over the years...
with good results in Australia, Canada, China, USA and the UK...

until last month...

Two items that never arrived ... [both in Australia]

and one seller is no longer registered... [today]
so. I guess i'll never see that item...
but She answered My emails before I bid... !!

the other item still hasn't arrived , none of My emails have been answered and I notice that He has good feedback until the middle of last month...
Now people are leaving bad feedback and the last one telling people not to bid on any items...

Was He in a car accident??? in Hospital??? Died??

or is he a Crook?? maybe We will never know...

Maybe its a good idea to get people's phone numbers before you bid?? if that is at all possible...??

also had a bad experience with oztion.com.au also...
with an item I won... Not answering emails...
answered all emails before i won the auction..??

so, if the person who is selling the item dies etc...
usually no one else would know you bought it???

We had one experience with an item from interstate (Melbourne, not VW related) The item turned up in a sad, worn and not working state, not as advertised. On contacting the seller, she agreed to refund "when the money cleared in her bank". After that no replies so we went through ebay disputes. Within hours of the time limit expiring for the seller to contact ebay/paypal, the money was back in our account.... $650.00 so it pays to use the security of Paypal.. They have the sellers bank details and can in most cases your loss be retrieved. Always resist Bank Deposit if you can on large items!

Hiya 1500,

Although there are more than a couple of reasons to dislike PayPal, you have touched on one of its assets. Still it just rankles to find out that you are dealing with somebody who is "less-than-honest".

Hope you are not out a small fortune Lee.

Lee you can if the sellers left genuine details when they originally registered as member a search for contact details will give you their phone numbers.
Generally I have had very little trouble but once I bought a CD player radio combo. The seller wrapped it in a plastic garbage bag no padding . It arrived predictably in many pieces and went straight to the bin. i rang the seller and he couldn't care less 'it was Australia posts fault'?

Luckily, I "only" lost $150 on ebay and $40 on Oztion which is the Aussie version of E-Bay....

As most people are Now saying they prefer Bank Deposit over Paypal plus if they Use paypal, the item must be sent by courier
which IS a lot more expensive than Aust Post ....

I had a look on E-Bay yesterday for the nintendo Wii console etc and there were heaps for sale, by people with very low ratings.. like 1 - 2 - 3... so now I'm very suspicious of low rating sellers... especially when all of them say that the item was a Prize they had Won and therefore had no receipt...

it actually looks like the same person is selling heaps of the one thing.???? under different names....

I used to say that Packaging was the most important thing on E-Bay... and Most people used to really do a great job packaging the items.. this IS especially important when more than one item is sent in the one parcel...

Paypal now seems a much better idea.... in Australia , as I have no problems when using Paypal overseas...

Mike, many people now charge extra if you use PayPal in an Aussie transaction, because of the cost of using it.. Although
I recently found a few E-bayers who preferred paypal in Aust?

Losing money like that also makes You look differently at people on E=bay....

I play by the rule that if it's too good to be true then it usually is. I am also generally wary of electronics that may be advertised as an Australian auction but items are actually out of Asia......hints are bad grammar, spelling and computer type translations meaning sentences don't sound quite right.
I would also never shell out anything over $50 from a low history seller.
Ebay is a brilliant tool and I have done over 600 transactions all over the world, but I shop on it as I would do in an actual store (as much as possible)....if something doesn't feel even completely right ie. dictating how they (the seller) want to be paid...I walk away. I am the customer and it has to work to my advantage or they can keep it.

Just my 2c....cheers.

A lot of that is true Boris,
but I haven't had any problems out of Australia...
China-UK-Canada-USA are all OK with Paypal...

and since E-Bay and Paypal are charging Aussie sellers more now.. since they tried to make all payments to be thru Paypal
but the Aust Government stopped that...
so, Aussie sellers are out of pocket when they take paypal....

and there are real bargains out there...

but I will have to take more notice of who is selling.... plus their rating....

cheers

LEE

I also shop for many items from aussie shops- topbuy.com.au - crazysales.com.au - oo.com.au - CrazyStu.com.au - Lee

well after 140+ transactions buying and selling on ebay ive only been stung once

luckily it was only a $60 purchase but i was really dissapointed with the way ebay handled it, or lack of handling for that matter

ive learned now dont buy anything electrical on ebay, as its just so much hassle returning faulty goods,

for the little bit extra you pay buying it locally its so much easy to deal with someone in person to sort out problems rather than emails back and forward only to get nowhere

a few ebay sellers just dont give a crap once they have your money and the item arrives

it has its pro's and cons, so many things ive bought i just coudlnt have found anywhere else

Hi
many people have said how they have bought things on e-bay
but never received them, or sold things on e-bay to people who didn't want them...

but over all My experience has been great, I've meet many nice people [thru friendly emails] who have taken exceptional care in wrapping items for Me...

I now buy all My clothes and shoes off e-bay...
and save hundreds of dollars...

I also have a stock of VW spares I bought off e-bay ..

People with good feedback Don't want to loose it..
so they try harder...

I will still continue to look but More carefully.....

I have been buying lots of 230v LED lamps from China with no problems... packaged well and VERY cheap....
and are only 1-2 watts... excellent..
I have them as spotlights in My backyard and carport..

LEE

So here it goes, i have had many issues with paypal both selling and buying.

If you are the buyer and you dispute that you didn't get the item 99% of the time you will get your money, even if you have received the item.

The only instance that paypal doesn't refund money is when the seller has sent by registered post and has receipt proof.

Another exception to this rule is if the seller doesn't have a)money in the paypal account b)money in an attached credit card or c) money in an attached bank.

Out of my 450(300 buys) odd dealings with ebay 95% of them through paypal i have had maybe 20 people be idiots. And out of those i haven't received my cash back from 2,1 who ended up sending the item (fair enough if a month or two late) the other one had no money in any of the accounts so where Ebay found him at fault they cant refund money that doesn't exist, but then 5 months after this i get this abusive email from the guy asking where the money went on his mums credit card, apparently he had linked his mums cc and the refund came from that.

cheers

As a buyer I have no problem using paypal at all. As a seller I'd be more than happy to use paypal if they dropped the fees. Do they pay me any interest on the couple of hundred bucks I have in my paypal account? Of course not. So they make money out of my ebay listing fees, make money out of my paypal fee, and make money by collecting the interest on MY money. .

That happened to us except we were selling our car.

We had it listed on car point etc but not ebay then one day dad got a phone call from a guy saying he had been emailing us and wanted to see the car before he purchased it and we had been emailing one guy but this wasnt him, he mentioned it being on ebay and we realised that someone had taken all the information off the other websites and used it to post his own add for the car, he evn claimed to have washed it to take the photos. It wasnt cheap either the guy had it listed for $50000.

We told ebay and they banned that account and took the sale down but preety freaky to know people do that all the time on ebay.
