Wanted info about a NSW car called a 2E

A few years ago I read an article about someone in NSW, somewhere near Picton, who had built a Beetle based prototype car called a 2E because the makers name is Toohey.

It was intended for production but the new ADRs got in the way and it never got past a first prototype which has I believe a Porsche 912 engine in it.

Googling has only produced websites about an electric car in the USA called an Aptera 2e. That's not what I want.

Can anyone help me with more information?

What information do you need? I have known the car, and its owner/builder for many years. Peter still has the 2E, and they live near me.

Cheers, Greg

Hi Greg.

It's just idle curiosity. It was triggered by a discussion I had recently about Australian made cars that never got past the prototype stage. I mentiond the 2E and no-one had heard of it.

I'd like some pictures to be posted here if that's possible, as I think that it needs to be better known.

From what I remember it is well made, looks the business and would have been popular if it, or a kit, ever went into production.

Am I right that it is painted a dark blue?

Richard.

I will try to post a photo of the 2E. If it doesn't work - more than likely - send me your email address, and I'll email it.

Cheers, Greg

Sorry, I'm hopeless at 'puter stuff. I can work the email bit, so PM you email address and I'll send a photo of Peter Toohey, his son Jack, alongside the 2E - you may want to post it on here. The 2E is green, by the way, and still drives OK.

Cheers, Greg

Another attempt. Cheers, Greg http://www.formula5000.net/data/storage/attachments/6e05ad9f93c8a45afd78b6278...

WOW, I managed to do it - he says, patting himself on the back!

This is the 2E, with Peter Toohey - owner, designer, and builder - and his son Jack.

Cheers, Greg

Thank you Greg.

That's the car I remember.

I think it is a very good looking vehicle. It's a pity that it never went into production.

Had it ever been produced it would, by now have the same cache as a Bolwell Nagari. An unusual, beautiful and admired collectors item.

Thanks again.

Richard.

nice looking car... but headlamps are too Low

and probably too close together...
if that's them behind those square colored bits..??

the color looks like My Fathers late 60 German Beetle...

Don't know the name of the color though....

Is that all you could find wrong, the headlights?

We could, perhaps, call the colour LEE GREEN. Ha Ha.

Cheers, Greg

So the headlights are too low are they? he wasnt stupid.... the whole leading edge of the bonnet raised up with the headlights contained in the leading edge face & they were legal, from memory the car was originally yellow, design & construction was of a very high standard as he was a perfectionist - you cant see in that photo but it had gullwing doors. he also designed the wheels himself.

Please, I need drivers side window regulator (winder mechanism) for my '54 http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/Kombikim/avatar1.jpg

When you say 'he was a perfectionist' - Peter still is a perfectionist!

You should see the 'floating caravan/ houseboat' that he recently built, virtually on his own, it's absolutely brilliant!

Cheers, Greg
