water leaks - type 3 variant -
i have a type 3 squareback and have just found water leaking under the dash
i cant see where its coming from, does anyone know how to remove the dash
i can't work out how the handle on the passenger side is fixed on, anyone have any ideas about leaks, are they common in these cars?
any help is appreciated

the rubber seems to be fine, i thiught it might be comin in thru the vents as the rain here in brisbane has been coming down hard but i'm not sure

Its most likely the windscreen seal...
all You need to do..
is get a tube of silastic/silicon.. clear or black...
and place the nozzle under the rubber...
and go all the way around squeezing the silicon as You go...
if You have enough under the rubber.. it should squeeze out
from under the rubber.. You just wipe it off with a rag..
before it dries...
this also has to be done when the rubber and the body is DRY....
this will stop MOST water leaks...
I do this, even when using a new window rubber..

I can't remember what's under the vents in a type 3...
its been many years since I owned one..
not sure whether its plastic or metal??

the vent drain holes are most likely blocked so a poke with wire or a blow through with a compressor
|

As Greedy said - the vent drain holes will be blocked. Get your head under the dash, and you'll see two pipes running down. Pull the pipes off their
connectors, and clean them out with some wire, then connect back up again. You'll end up clearing our a whole lot of dead flies.

Had this problem with my type 3 and every time you drove in the rain, you ended up with all this water across the shins of your legs.
It was like someone got out a bucket of water and threw it at you (the water not the bucket LoL)
Definitely be the vents as the guys suggested.

i pulled the cold air fan out, it was full of water up to the side vent hoses and the drain holes blocked thankls guys for the help
