New VW dealer in QLD
I have just discovered that Volkswagen opened a new dealership in Mackay last year, North Jacklin Volkswagen, 7 Kay Court (Mt Pleasant). It looks like
it was previously a used car lot.
This makes the eighth different VW dealership that Mackay has had, and the first since 'Caneland Autos' on Milton St closed in 2002. Mackay's first
VW dealer was 'British and Continental Motors' on Woods St, 1955-57.
Mackay now ties with Southport and Townsville, all of which have eight different VW dealers. The record is ten, in Toowoomba. QLD's oldest existing
VW dealer is Austral Volkswagen in Newstead, who began in 1996. QLD's longest lasting of all was Bill Doherty Pty Ltd in Fortitude Valley. He began
as 'Doherty and Richardson' in 1959 and lasted until 1994 - 35 years - at 50 Bowen Bridge Rd.
