Hello all, this might seem a strange question, but I am new to VW s. I have a 1300 engine and I want to do a rebuild of it,can I put 1600 pistons and
pots etc in it to make it a 1600,or do I have to replace the whole thing?some help on this issue would be great. ThanksGary

you would be better off just to buy a reco 1600
cause if your motor is old and you beef up the top , the bottom end will fail.

Ok thanks,I would have thought that the heads would be the same, but what do I know. I would most likely recon the heads so I can run unleaded fuel.
Or is that not worth doing?

I just recoed my 1300 TP and turned it into a 1650.
Rough guess from memory, was bearing, gaskets,1650 kit, cam, lifters, timing gear, oil pump, rocker shafts, fix heads. All up was about $1000. Now
just to add new elc dissy, 55 amp alternator and twin carbs.
