Going electric

Hi,
I'm currently in the middle of a restoration/ conversion of a 64 beetle into a 120v electric beetle. Has anybody done anything similar? I'm looking for some good advice and friendly hints!!

Also, I'm looking to get an adaptor plate made up for the motor, anyone got good contacts in the brisbane area?

I had a look at the kits but decided to go with individual components. I've ordered an ADC L91-4003 motor which will do 16hp / 12kw continuous and 54kw / 72hp peak. (remembering that hp and kw are different for electric motors)
I'll be running a 120v 38 cell LiFePO4 pack at 90ah per cell.

I do need to work out where to put the bits and how they fit on tho.... (!)

If you're looking to do a conversion it's well worth looking at evmotors.com.au - Michael knows LOTS about ev cars having driven them for 15 years!

A great resource is... www.diyelectriccar.com

Thats sounds great there mate i think lifepo4 is realy the only way to get a realy good conversion as they weigh about one third that of lead acid batts and dont take up anywhere near as much space either. Please keep us up to date with your progress i am looking foward to seeing how it all works out. Are you going to be using the clucth or not bother with it?

I am keen to see the progress on this and the cost associated.

In the future, when(not if) I get type 3, I'll be thinking of doing the same. Or a subi conversion.

I'll have to look into those sites....

there are many success stories of electric cars about...

mostly owner built... that I have heard about...

power is no problem...

cost of batteries probably is...

just don't use Prius brakes or toyoto accelerator pedals etc.. lol

at least if fuel gets too expensive, or electric cars get lower rego etc fees.. it will be the way to go...

imagine driving to work everyday for practically nothing...
[as in petrol costs]

no more engine oil changes... tappets... tune ups...

What would we do with all that spare time... lol

only thing I forgot...

You still have to park the car somewhere...

IF You live in a city that is...

but what if Electric cars were exempt from parking fines etc...

NOW THAT WOULD BE THE WAY TO GO....
