weber idf & fuel blockage

Hi all,
So peeved right now, decided to fix a simple fuel leak at the filler connection to tank in my 68 beetle, as per usual decided I'd do some other stuff at the same time, to cut long story short changed fuel tanks and think some crap in the new tank got into the fuel line and now carbies I guess, cos it ran long enough to reverse into the street before dying and wont start again.
Had work done recently, and seems no fuel filter was put in the new line (mumble, mumble.....)
Anyway question is, on my 48 idf webers, do I just take out the idle jet and clear them or what else do I need to do to get it running (besides obviously including a fuel filter now).
I am afraid I am not as great mechanically as I wish I was, so any (hopefully simple) advice is appreciated.
Cheers.
