jack the car up on stands so it sits level and take out the filler plug LHS gear box , but you little finger in and you should get oil on tip of finger when it just inside the hole.
If its low on oil , you just fill until it runs out filler hole, then put the plug back in.

Manual Transmission

CASTROL VMX 80
Mild extreme pressure gear oil with special viscosity stabilisers to overcome shift problems. Recommended for use in transaxles of most front wheel drive vehicles with a transverse engine and manual transmissions experiencing low temperature shift problems. SAE 75W/80, API GL4.

Service Refill Capacity: 2.5 Litres

thanks ian, i may have a problem, I drained the oil out (bout a litre and a half came out) i put 2 ltrs back in (bout a week ago) and now has developed a leak out of the "nose cone"of the gbox, any ideas?????
the car was jacked up at the back only, whether that matters?????
"nose cone" = the cover where the mount bolts to

thanks

jsut check to make sure that any of the bolt are not loose.
But you may just have a worn selector seal, thats why you only got 1 1/2 litres of oil out.:fakesniff:

old oil might have been thicker
how are your axle boots?

swingers will leak alot thro little tears in them when going around corners/over bumps so u wont see oil on your garage floor much but u lose it when driving along

you would probably hear it before you felt it but Dave B could give you a better idea, but i imagine just harder to shift and probably give that feeling of dragging brakes
