Late model Porsche replica wheels

For those looking for late model Porsche wheels, building GL bugs etc these may make a viable alternative to genuine Porsche twists and the like. Only problem is the smallest size is a 17x9.

http://hartmannwheels.com/porsche-wheels

Here is one offering but they have more including Fuchs replicas

Also found these from the US but can't seem to find pricing. From what I can gather though, these were from Millie Miglia who went out of business and Tirerack bought the moulds.

They start in a 17x7.5 from what I can gather.

ohhhhhh man, its just too early in my project to snap these up.

Out of interest do you know if the 17x7.5's will fit under standard guards of a standard bug?

Hi

The 7.5s I have a 23ET, same as a 7 inch Fuchs or Cookie cutter but 1/2 inch wider, so I don't think that they would fit your bug.

Hi Kevin

No that's for all 4, I bought my dream wheels the other day on Ebay, 18 inch Simmons OMs, so I don't need these anymore.

The Simmons were always going to be my end game, this set of twists and the other set I have were an interim set up.

I will get the centres repainted silver and take the width back to 7.5 & 8.

Steve

Hi

I was hoping for around a $1000, but I will start lower on Ebay. These would be too wide for a car with standard guards.

Steve

I am sure they would at the moment with the massive fibreglass flares that are on it, but they will be on the "remove list".

Its a shame that the twists won't fit under standard guards, that was the ultimate look I was going for. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Hi

On my sons 1303 we used 17x7s with a 55ET, I thinks this size would work on the front OK of a beam bug, not 100% on that, I'm assuming that your bug is a beam bug.

The backs went on fine after I widened the rear track 25 mm per side by fitting 944 brakes.

17x7 with 55ET is a common Porsche size.

anything over et45 on the back of IRS bugs starts getting pretty close to the bumpstop upper stopper thingy and the spring plate bolts, with stock brakes and arms that is

Hi

I think that Joel will agree with me, 4 or 5x100 can be a pain as the grease cap will need to be cut down.

Maybe go 4 or 5 x 114.3

yep thats true, but then 5x114.3 doesnt really have any offsets that are good for stock gaurds

a good choice if your runing wider gaurds though cos the rims are everywhere

Hi

I'm looking for different wheels at the moment for Davids Skyline, they are 4x114.3, not finding very much around.

This is what needs to be done to the grease cap and the rotor for 100 pcd wheels, on Davids bug we couldn't run the stock wheel centre caps, it looks like Joel as managed to run them on his new wheels.

i was lucky my front discs didnt have the hubcentric shoulder

i havent actually had a problem with the fronts, a bit of creative panel beating to the dust caps and the center caps fit everytime

its those damn axle nuts at the back that are the problem
my rear discs help space them abit but only these new rims have ever fit center caps

Hi

The picture that I posted is not Davids car but the grease cap on Davids car is modified the same way, I works OK.

The wheel cap just fits on the rear of Davids car after I gave the end of the axle a lick with the angle grinder.

I knew that that hubcentreing thing had to go but i can do some work on the grease cap easy as, might machine some at school.

As for the rear i will fix that when it comes to it cause each rim will be different.

Hi

The grease cap actually ends up being a hub centrering ring when its cut down to fit inside the wheel. There is also various centre bore diameters between cars, a larger one would require less work.

Bet these will be hard to come by in the near future with Simmons Wheels closing its doors.

Hope getting them mod'ed won't be too hard.

Hi

I have friend who is the approved Simmons repairer, he's at Mortdale about 2 suburbs away from me, we've already worked out what rims I need.

I want to go 7.5s or 8s on the front, and 8 or 9s on the rear. I'm going to call my engineer soon to see if I can run 9s on the rear, I know 8s are OK but I'm using a 1987 Porsche 944 rear end and this may allow me to go a larger wheel legally, its all about exploring RTA rules and using them to your advantage.

The other thing that I don't like is that the front Simmons wheels have the centre protruding on the edges, I will be fitting a wider outer rim on the front wheels so this will sit back in more, just like the rears do now.

So I will need to change the inner and outer on the front wheels and the inner on the rears and get the centres painted silver.

I also bought on Ebay a month ore so ago a single 18x8 in the same style, so I have 5 centres.

Hi

Ive been looking at Jap wheels for our Skyline and came across these, they come in 5x130 Porsche pattern.

They would look sweet on a GL bug

Forgot the link http://www.ssr-wheels.com/wheels/ms1r_151617.asp

Steve, those SSRs are availble with a pretty impressive range of options

looks like you can order them with an extra deep center bore, perfect for clearing those vw axle nuts

i think my Lite-7s had the same option

Hi

Joel, the SSRs would be an easy fitup to any bug with those ETs, I dont think that there is a local dealer.

Looks like we have decided on 17x8 Koya Drift tec for the Skyline, just got a price from a company in Qld called F1 wheels, $1470 with tyres delivered to our door with wheel nuts & lock nuts, the local tyre place was $1300 without tyres.

Shameless plug, I have my other set of Turbo twists on Ebay now http://cgi.ebay.com.au/17x7-5-Porsche-Turbo-twists-Cup-3_W0QQitemZ33041750459...
