Looking for a pre 1967 Beetle
Hi guys,
New to the forum, i am currently looking a buying a pre 1967 beetle here in Sydney. I guess this is my mid life crisis lol my very first car in the
early 80's was a 1967 Beetle which i really loved.
I remember paying $300 for the car then spending $600 having a set of speedy wheels made lol. It was a great car until it was stolen and stripped.
I have found a 1966 Beetle that looks good (online havent inspected yet)
I have a couple of questions and would appreciate any advice.
What would it cost to convert to disc brakes?
Is it difficult to install decent bucket seats?
The asking price for the car is $7500 but i am hoping to get a better price.
thanks in advance

G'day there and welcome to Aussieveedubbers!
You can convert a pre 67 beetle to disc brakes, however i dont believe there would be much change out of a grand once the conversion has been done.
As for bucket seats, Ive seen some simple bolt to the floor jobs done (Pays to check your start laws regarding these modifications) right down to
having a seat mounted to the frame of the original seats.
Maybe im expection a bit too much but for 7.5k it would want to be a fine little beetle, maybe if you were looking at disc brakes, maybe a 69 model
beetle might be better suited for what you want?
Hope this helps and best of luck with the beetle hunting!
Cheers Bill.
Ps. Post up which state your in as some members may be able to help you out.

thanks for the advice, there is a second beetle im looking at which already has bucket seats and disc brakes. It is only $500 more so it is probably a
better buy but at $8000 it would need to be, however im not prepared to pay too much more than $6000 so i may just have to play the waiting game.

Bargin with the 8000 one, i got mine for 2500 and stripped it sprayed it put it back together now its nearly how i want it and its cost nearly 6000
all up. I have seats exhaust sound system rust repairs two sets of tyres, soon to have widened fenders and rims. It costs lots but is very satisfying
to get it all done.

Thanks Peter yes definitely. If i go for the 66 model that Mitch showed you I will want to install bucket seats redo the upholstery and install disc
brakes.
In your opinion what would it cost?
Are you free for a ride to shellharbour Sunday next week? We can drive the Commodore or take your Beetle for a run and I'll pick up the fuel bill.
BTW do you have to use unleaded with a lead additive or does E10 work?
