Yes it is a 54 - the ragtop was in when it came over from Oz but it has had a new one put in as the original was old and ragged. |

I had a genuine '54 model Golde sunroof some years ago. It was a LHD which was brought over by a German migrant. He switched the steering wheel
over to the right side (but still LHD dash) and drove it like that for years in country NSW. Kids/surplus of cars/life etc made me sell it, a guy in
Brisbane bought it and he still had it a few years later I know, but I've lost track of it since. I'll see if I can dig up a photo.

Yeh you dont see many of them around.I will keep my eye open for you.
that made me remember this dude we met.Who had a Ragtop(not oval) 1970 or something like that, for sale.It had nothing in it completely stripped and
looked like it had been in a fire.Holes in door.It was a freakin mess.We asked him how much, and he said "Realistically its worth $50,000" WHAT!!!
We left within 5 mins.,i dont know, unless he knew something that i
didnt ,but i dont think it was that special..

SUNROOF PRODUCTION
Clayton produced a total of 1207 Sunroof Beetles ( Type 118) with the last one coming off the production line in March 1968.
Of the 1207 total units, 988 were produced prior to end of December 1965 but there is no further breakdown prior to that date so I cannot give any
idea of Oval Sunroof production.

Neither can I - the FCAI only lists total sales for 'VW 1200'.
Early 1954 cars were fully imported, as CKD assembly did not begin in Clayton until June 1954. So there may have been a handful more than 1,207 - but
not a great deal more !
This preview was from the 1954 Motor Manual annual.

Interesting the 54 Motor Manual has a Beetle with crotch coolers and round grills in the guards - that puts it as a pre October 52 model ??

Yes we didn't get any of those in Australia. The publishers must have just used a 'stock' photo that was a couple of years older.
