Quick question??
Checked out a beetle the other day, engine sounded nice when cold but had abit of a rumble when warm, sounded a bit like the generator??
Would this be more likely the generator or main/big end bearings.
I know the easiest way is to remove the fan belt but I had no tools.
Are bigends a problem on them?
It had atwin port so i presume 1600. Year is 1970.
Cheers
Hurry up and wait

Generator bearings are cheap to replace...
I haven't heard of big end problems...
but naturally it depends on who put the engine together etc
could be a 1300 twin port but 1600 twin ports are more common..
or could be a 1500 with twin port heads...??
cheers

gen bearings are loud when buggered and easy to replace.
