Remote oil filter
Has anyone fitted a good kit they would recommend? It would save me a lot of time researching and possibly fitting something that does not work well.

A lot of years ago I modified my oil pump & cover to pump the oil through a remote Valiant oil filter mounted in the Ghia engine bay,it has worked
very well and is still operating. At the time of modification there was nothing else available so we adapted what was readily available.

For a 'full flow' system, probably the best is the Gene Berg kit, which contains the oil pump cover, lines, fittings, filter housing and a Fram
filter. You can buy this system at several Sydney VW parts shops, such as Vintage and V-Force.

Are you also thinking of upgrading to a bigger oil pump?

Was a bit vaugue!!
The car is my daughters road driven beetle. 1300 going out to 1600 with rebuild underway. Standard exhaust is fitted. I would like to keep the filter
in with the motor if possible, not fussed on fitting under mudguard as some I have seen.

Don't worry about it. Just change the oil regularly as your suspose to in a vw, as the oil is cheap as cheap 5ltrs Valvoline 20w/50 is around $15 at
Supercheap.

Hi
On my sons bug I've fitted a filter pump, as in the oil filter is attached to the pump housing, I bought mine from aircooled.net http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproductdetail.php?keyword2=ECO0029&c...
The external ones can be pain with blown hoses on cold mornings when the oil is thick.

Hi
The VW engine doesn't really have an oil filter..
it only an oil strainer... that's one reason why the oil needs to be renewed so often...
every 2000miles.. Mexican VWs in the 90's+ recommended
also there is no oil seal behind the crankshaft pulley...
the one Steve is talking about sits behind the crankshaft pulley under the tinware.,
bolts over the oil pump.... no hoses..
spin on oil filter...
One of the best things You can do to a VW engine.... IMHO..

Steve.
This unit looks the most convenient with no hoses, would make the job and maintenence a lot easier. The site does however say that it cannot be fitted
to vehicle with statndard exhaust. Is it the heat riser that is the issue? I would not like to lose this.

If fits stock exhausts if the carb preheat tube is on the right, you may not even have it on your exhaust.
If you look at the pic on this link, you'll see the preheat tube and can match it to the engine. Filter pumps are great on stock engines, I think
they used to come standard on mexi engines.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=288232&highlight=pre+hea...
If this won't work, buy an in/out pump, they work well for stock, use aeroquip blue hose with barbed fittings, bolt the filter to the bumper bracket.
