Gear problems
Hi all,
Whilst my daughter was driving to the VW Nationals today she had an experience of the car jumping out of first gear when taking off and
accellerating.
I drove it after the show finished and I found that it did it also, as well, it feels as thought the gear lever is moving forward and back when
subjected to acceleration and decelleration...could this be a loose or broken engine or gearbox mount?
Fixer upperer of daughter's '69 Bug "Oscar"
Cheers

My guess is it is the front mount
This happened to mine
The box effectivelt rocks on the rear mounts and this moves your gear stick back and forth
I replaced the front mount with the motor and box in place
Bit of a pain
Anyway - useless as the new one failed in a matter of months
I solved the problem once and for all by putting a semi solid mount on the gear box
Gear stick if firm - no rocking at all
Still have the dead/torn/failed 2nd front mount in there
Down side is a fair bit of engine "noise & vibration" is transmitted into the car
