Sourcing Parts

Hi all
I am looking for a few parts for my 69 beetle but I am not sure where to start to look.
Where would I find these items and any ideas how much are they worth? I am in Adelaide and have no idea where to start. Cheers in advance for any help!

Torsion bar adjusters
Drivers side window regulator
Rims to suit 4 stud pattern (Looking for off road steel rims like sunraysia)

I am trying to work out how much I need to save for all this stuff, I really want to get this bug on the road!!

Also I am considering another steering wheel for my bug too, what do i need to get (boss kit etc) to make this work?

What would any of you suggest in terms of an exhaust system? I want to raise the rear of my car for a bit more clearance, I am not going full baja conversion but semi off road any ideas??

Cheers all!

Hi mate,

I'm in Adelaide and am currently breaking my old '70 1500. I can sell you a good used window regulator and a decent set of sunraysia-style steel rims made by Speedy Wheels, complete with centre-caps. I can't help you on the beam adjusters though, unfortunately. I can deliver the parts within the metro area as well.

As far as raising the suspension goes, on a swing-axle there's no point raising the car above the point where the driveshafts are level at rest, as you'll just get more and more positive camber, and hence dire handling. For exhaust, make sure that you get something that doesn't hang down too low. Most off-the-shelf merged headers or sports exhausts hang down a long way further than they need to and cripple your departure angle/ground clearance. Despite the fact that companies have been making headers for VWs for 50 years, many of them still don't seem to have the design right, so a lot of people make custom exhausts themselves. One easy start to this is to get hold of a Mexican 2 tip GT exhaust (shown below), then cut the muffler off and weld on a flange.

After this you can make up your own flanged muffler to tuck up under the body. You can get flanged headers already made, of course, but a lot of them seem to hang lower than the Mexican sports exhausts. I don't really have much experience with the exhausts, as this is one of the areas which I'm planning to do next on my bug!

Cheers,
Waveman
