I was going to say RR's,
but Rene in adelaide has a set that made 200 at the flywheel on 2387cc.
They had the exhaust guide moved over to allow a 48mm intake valve in there.

Yes they were for sale last time I asked,(no valves.... they were Ti and robbed fo his new heads))
but are only 040 castings from memory.
.... but despite claims to the contrary,
the 040 and 043 castings can work ,and seal up fine, on 94 bores.

I made about 275hp on my 1775cc blower engine, with 043s (127mph@1750 or so),
and wallys turbocharged engine made more usable power,(no blower losses) with my old 40x35, 044s

i would WANT 044 as theres more meat up in the chamber area and they will last longer
rather than the 040 or 043s

I have the 044s on my daily driver and no probs with heat disipation

Yep no probs machining 043's "out" for 94 bores, just dont go "down" ! Great for strokers or blown motors, useless if you want good compression on a smaller motor.

you can go deeper using the 040's.

Troy is the question relating to "stock VW heads" or to highly modified heads that started out being stock VW ?

this topic was brought up in conversation the other day and was just wondering what power people had made starting with a stock vw head and modifying them to whatever they wanted to make power. o44 are still the same as a stock in shape, unlike comp eliiminators and the like if you know what i mean

According to calculations on paper westi should be making around 216-220HP with that head, valve, displacement combo.
230HP is a true testament of westi's workmanship and ability to seriously push the boundaries in the NA vw scene, not surprising if you guys get more out of the heads.
rock on.

Type-4 stock heads modified 360bhp

in 2006 I took a stock pair of 2 litre type-4 heads and modified them for my turbo oval . There was a considerable amount of welding and porting perfomed on the heads , 50x41mm titanium valves fitted on ally-bronze valve seats and the results were as follows .
360bhp @ the rear wheels on 24psi boost.....
These heads are still in good condition and are about to be fitted to my sports sedan , to make way for the new combo going into the oval .

Wow Wayne, how did you go with the pushrod tubes around the stub pipes - must have been very tight?

the secret to maximum exhaust flow through my stub pipes was to flatten the exhaust tube into an oval shape and then modify/flat-spot the pushrod tubes to fit with the stub pipes .
when I assemble this engine the exhaust stub pipes must be fitted to the heads before fitting the pushrod tubes . Its all tight , but works really well and I was turning the 2868ml engine to 8200rpm and was not uncommon to see 8600rpm .

I hear Hermann (here in WA) is making an estimated 450 with his turbo TIV ragtop.... It was closer to 500 (South African dyno!) in its last guise, but he dropped the comp and did a little more headwork when he fitted it into his Bug.... Stock 2ltr bottom-end so he tells us too.... :starhit:

Hopefully get him on a dyno sometime soon...

CB 044 castings un ported with 87mm bore on a 1641. Made 165 rwhp and 746nm of torque (3rd gear run)to the tyes with my first turbo vw motor.

The same motor run up naturally aspirated with a pair of 40 IDF webbers made 36 rwhp in 4th gear.

Really shows how heads is where the power is, and nothing overcomes flow restrictions like a boost does.
