There are different types of 12V wiper motors, the ones which are designed for a dash switch and the ones for use with a column switch. The two types are wired differently. Basically the difference is in the way the park function works, the dash switch ones earth through the switch when they park and the column switch ones don't. Both have 5 wires I believe, one is earthed to the body and four to the switch. For the column switch, one is live power with ignition, one for low speed, one for high speed, and one which somehow makes the park function work by some method I don't fully understand.

Hi Trev,

NO

but You could wire it that way...
then the blades won't be self parking...

for beetles with switch on the dash 1968>
the self parking feature actually goes thru a switch in the wiper motor itself.. and earths out the motor to stop it..

You need to look at wiring diagram before You wire it up...

and don't hook it up with the wiper assembly in Your hands as it doesn't stop when You turn it off... lol
it self parks on Your fingers.... YIKES...

One lesson I'll never forget....

Need to know what model year Your beetle is...
or Your wiper assembly is... lol
as mentioned... there are a few different assemblies..

You May be able to fit the 1968 beetle two speed wiper
motor assembly to Your earlier beetle..
as the shafts are the same size... small
but the hole spacing may be different...
plus whether its RH or LH wipers... lol

Non Super beetles from 1968> had LH wipers...
made for LHD cars...

LEE

I have the wiper info here... I'll post it tomorrow night... Lee
