type 1 fans
i would like to know what the holes are for in a type 1 fan there are 8 about the size of a 10 cent piece around the gland nut that holds the fan
down.

My guess is for weight reduction...
flexplates in autos have the same...

I have a feeling its only single port fans that have the holes.
As Lee said its probably just weight reduction as they serve no purpose, the fan can't pull in air through them anyway

thanks for the info.its not the smaller fan its the larger one for t/port got it from classic vw years ago can not remember what george said if there
was any difference at all.he is a hard man to get on the phone.thanks kevin

the twin port [doghouse oil cooler] fans are wider...
My alternator came with the narrow single port fan on it... ??
I didn't check until the paint over the heads bubbled
[a few years ago]
and found My [doghouse] generator had the wide fan...lol
I now run the original fan and shroud etc... and remote oil cooler.
