WSID 07/07/10.......It finally broke !

Well I did a nice 2nd gear 8000rpm "tire warmer"...........moved up to the start line........and on the green (well maybe amber !!) side stepped it at about 7000rpm..............and BANG !!!

Hmmmmm a gearbox full of neutrals .......and a nice clunk sound when you release the clutch.:fakesniff:

I guess after 15 years and over 1000 launches something in the drivetrain had to let go !

So I loaded it up on the trailer (glad I trailered it there) and I can now grab the drivers side axle and move it up and down on the gearbox end. Here's hoping its just a smashed CV and not the Quaife !!!

Hi

If your running bug output shafts they are the weak link, I broke one through my own stupidity.

You might need 1 of those 5-Bar kits. I hear they stop gearbox's breakings. ;)

Sorry to hear Craig. Unfortunately, drive line fractures do happen. (I reckon I need psyciatric counceling to get over the number of "fractures" I've incurred over the years) so don't feel too bad
Not having been there, be careful when doing burnouts, not to continue the burnout very far past the water. The track gets very grippy at that point (about 2 to 3 metres past the water). in some cases, the traction there is actually better than the start line.
I don't know if Dave will agree, but I believe that many start line failures begin just out of the burnout box and before the start line - especially if you hear the tyres "squeak" during the burnout when driving hard out of the water. The launch just finishes it off

^^^ interesting theory Henry.

And to think I enjoy hearing that last part of the burn out, especially with a squeak :).

Henry....you've hit the nail on the head, because last night I went well past the water area.

I always try to listen for the squeak.........I was actually showing a mate last night (when I became a spectator!) what to listen for when doing a burnout.

Ah well thats motorsport ;)

yep.....I haven't really learnt to do a good drag launch yet, so I prefer to give it heaps of revs and just side step. That's why I bought a Go Pro camera so I could get some incar footage of revs !!!

I had the BFGoodrich T/A road tyres on,they are a 15inch 205/65 series......I think about 25.5 inch Dia.

You will have to bring that quick bug of yours out again, maybe we head out in 2 weeks ?

make that two !

Interesting to see how not all the tyre is 'black' from the burnout (outer edge untouched).........I'm still running camber from the hillclimb days, so I think that needs to be change so ALL the tyre is being used....that and maybe lower tyre pressures!
