Interestingly, Sydney Observatory has never recorded a freezing temperature since records began in 1855 (the ocean stabilizes temperatures and prevents extremes).

Sydney's lowest-ever recorded temperature was 2.1 degrees on 22 June 1932, closely followed by 2.2 degrees on 8 July 1861. Sydney's July average minimum over 160 years is 8.0 degrees.

Inland on the other hand - Liverpool's lowest-ever recorded temperature was -5.0 degrees on 25 July 1994 (Whitlam centre). Liverpool's July average minimum since 1962 is 4.7 degrees.

Richmond's lowest-ever recorded temperature was -8.3 degrees on 16 July 1970 (Richmond RAAF). Richmond's average July minimum since 1929 is 3.6 degrees.

Picton Bowling Club once recorded -10.0 on 16 July 1970.

Wagga's overnight minimum record was -8.9, set on 20 July 1918. Wagga's coldest daily maximum was 1.1 degrees on 5 July 1883. Average July min/max is 2.4/13.5. A bit chillier than Sydney...

The coldest temperature ever recorded on the Australian mainland was -23.0 degrees, at the Koscuisko Chalet at Charlotte Pass on 29 June 1994.

Dropped to about 25 outside.. and about 22 with the aircon on last night.

Interesting fact, as Jakarta is only 6 degrees south, "Winter" is actually hotter on average than summer. Winter is the dry season and doesn't get the rain to cool things off. Also the polution goes up, acting as a blanket.
