Replacing worn distributor

The dizzy in my '67 beetle is pretty worn, and I'm looking at whether to get it rebuilt or just buy a whole new dizzy.

It's a very stock 1300SP Aussie beetle, 30 PICT-1 carby, still 6V although I will be converting to 12V at some stage.

I'm in Brisbane, does anyone rebuild these locally?

I've had a look at replacement dizzys, the SVDAs seem to be a good 'stock' replacement. However the aircooled.net site specifically states that their dizzy won't work on 30PICT1 or 2 carbs. Other sites don't say this, but perhaps they are assuming everyone has a 1600 by now!

Has anyone fitted one of the SVDAs to a smaller engine? I've got no real intention of changing the 1300, it's the cars original engine.

There also seem to be a number of different makes out there, any tips or things to avoid would be appreciated.

I'll try some Aussie companies during the week, they don't list much info on their sites so will need to call them.

Cheers

Try this link for what it is worth I have purchased both the 009 and Vac advance dizzy from CBB and both ran in my beetle with no problems.

Yes

All aircooled.net also says that the 30PICT 1 doesn't have enough vacuum for the SVDA dizzy...

the originals had very large vacuum cans...

some one on here may know of a rebuider of distributors..
I know they do them in the USA...

maybe just finding an original type in good condition...

Angus,

Bought an SVDA and put it on a 1600SP with a 30PICT-3 carb and it ran, but didn't feel half as good as a 009. I think the vacuum signal from the carb is too weak on a 30PICT to drive the vacuum can which is why earlier ones had big cans.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks for the comments, I think I'll look at trying to pick up a good original one, or fixing up mine.
