S Bug Struts

I'm looking at lowering the front of my S beetle and was wondering what my options are?
Currently it has standard struts with the bottom spring mounts lowered by 50mm with standard springs, the suspension is "softer" but the ride height is the same.
I'm not looking for full on adjustable race suspension, just something that will lower the front so the car sits level.
I'm open to suggestions and any input would be appreciated

cheers
Mike

ok first question what rims are you running?
i have a set of lowered struts that had the cups moved about 30mm but the ride is the same as stock but 30mm. i removed these when i fitted the porsche rims that i currently have. im now running custom adjustable from vforce which let me go lower without sacrificing the ride.

It still has standard rims and I'm not planing on changing them.
I thought moving the spring cups would lower it but with the standard stuts in I measured from the bottom of the rim to the bottom lip of the guard then did the same with the "lowered" struts and the measurement was the same

I would still go a lowered strut

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d170/blue74l/RIMG08861.jpg

By the time you lower a standard strut, get a new insert, new spring, you are close to the price of these - and you now have the option of different wheels and changing the set up easily
With a modified stock strut you are stuck with a 5.5" rim max and a bugger to put different springs or inserts on

Contact EgeWorks (Eden) he had the struts in the picture and was selling them for a bargain

Also look at Topline and maybe import some Maxx from the states

No one really does them - new that is
Well here in Aust anyway.
Topline has them and you can get then sent over
http://toplineparts.com/products/sportsprings.htm
Better off with these
http://toplineparts.com/products/versastruts.htm

You can get them heat treated or something
Dont even think of cutting them
The down side to that is you are just squashing your insert
Better off getting the propper length one

Once you have paid for springs and inserts - you may as well go new struts

I think I'm leaning towards complete new struts. Are there any I can get locally (in Australia)?
Where abouts would I be able to find out about the ones pictured above?
I hadn't planned it but this super bug is ending up being a bit of a project:rolleyes:

I've tried just about everything under my supers over the years to lower them, and lesson learned just do it once from the beginning and get adjustables

Got topline MaXX in now but as much as I poo poo Empi, theyre adjustable struts arent too bad, just a copy of toplines versa-strut, not outrageously exy either, just drop in some better inserts like Konis
I bought a set about 4-5 years ago from George @ classic

lowering the spring cup on stock struts gives a crappy ride, and shortens the inserts life

The ones in the pic are from V Force

http://beetleracing.com.au/products.html

As I said
Give Eden a call - reckon he may still have his struts

http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=84331&page=2

as of 5/7
Struts + shocks + camber adjusters $750

I have a set of King Springs in my old super struts (L bug). If your are keeping the std wheels they will fit fine. The ones I got where not in the catalogue, but are still listed by Kings if you call them. They are about 30mm lower and about 25% stiffer. They do give a slightly stiffer ride with Koni Sports shocks that I also ran at the same time. I think they cost me about $200 in 2002/2003.

I have since gone Vforce with the custom valved inserts. The car was a daily/weekend club car and the setup was great. The new setup is 90% track, so the stiffer fronts are fine. It was a cheap option compared to new struts at the time, when I was a student working at woolies!

Thanks for the plug Barry. Yes mine a still for sale - best thing I ever got for my bug. They are a little less shiny now than in the pic above, but have nothing wrong with them at all.
