Rear Air Vent
I have been trying to clean up some surface rust around around the rear air vent above the engine compartment of my beetle and I can't get to it
all.
Does anyone one have any suggestions on how to fix the surface rust inside the air vent?

spray it with fishoil then with an antirust paint/undercoat etc...
or filler undercoat...
until its smooth...
paint with satin or flat black paint....

is there anyway I can actually clean out the surface rust?
its probably obvious but whats the reasoning behind painting it black?

Sorry,
I thought I should have clarified that...
You will need the fishoil to dry... the fishoil coats the rust etc and stops air getting to it... so no more rust..
it can take a few days to dry in cooler weather...
or killrust spray paint should do the same job... a few thin coats... of satin or flat black paint....
killrust has epoxy paint which does the same as the fish oil...
a few light coats... will do...
I will get around to doing Mine one day...
its painted silver after a few coats of fish oil...
but a dark color behind the vents looks great....

spray rust dissolver in there... it may take a couple of goes to get rid of it totally...then paint or treat and paint as you wish.

Interesting, never heard of this stuff, turns out Supercheap sell it and its made by 3m so it can't be that bad.

rust desolver is excellent on rusted surfaces....
not painted surfaces....
I have been thinking of masking all the vents up so I could spray black satin paint in thru the vents.. ...

Deox C in there, keep doing it til its gone.
Pressure wash it all out.
Por 15 metal ready, pressure wash it out.
Dry it really good, even use a heat gun if needed.
Por 15 rust paint.
Por15 Tie cote.
Paint of your choice.
