Insurance clauses (not santa)
Just bought a bug and looking to get some insurance quotes before it hits the road, what sort of things should i be specifying in the contract?
I know things like agreed value but what about things like drag days and track days at warwick? can i have it so it is repaired and not wrecked or
written off at the drop of a hat. what should i be looking for and who will give me the best deal, I have read a few with the search function and
found people with Lumleys and Shannons (some having issues with) and gio. what have you gone for and why?
This bug is not worked or hotted up, all standard 1970.

i went for full salvage right to the car, already had to use it once already.
other than that, full comprehensive with agreed value and the rest of the works.

From a classic car repairers point of view, we have found Shannons fair to deal with. We have repaired a hail damaged Beetle as a Shannons claim.
We have also had quite a few cars written off as you say, as the cost to repair them PROPERLY was above the value insured. This can happen if the
vehicle was underinsured. The owners keep the car, and they are not taken off the road. The owner does what they want with the car.

Although some Shannons sponsored events have insurance for Shannons insured vehicles allowed. We repaired a vehicle that was damaged on a Classic
Adelaide race. It was more than $50K damage and Shannons accepted the claim as it was a race at one of their sponsored events.

I've been insured for Shannons for about ten years. I've had to make three claims at various times, no hassles at all. If I change something on a
car it's never a problem and they've even pointed out to me when they thought I'd undervalued one of my cars and suggested increasing the agreed
value. Lumley is a little cheaper, but I'll stick with Shannons.

I haven't heard of Lumleys...
but SHANNONS and NRMA CLASSIC & VINTAGE CAR INSURANCE...
I have had My beetle with NRMA classic insurance.. similar to shannons....
with both these companies -
YOU DO GET YOUR CAR BACK FOR FREE IF ITS A WRITEOFF
so You can fix it or use the bits on another beetle...
[plus the insurance money]
You talk to either company and tell them how much You want to insure Your car for... ALL AGREED...
$3000 - $5000 or $7000 ++
depending what You think its worth...
and they agree...
the more You insure the car for, naturally the premiums go higher...
You need to tell them how often You want to drive Your car.
I'm limited to about 8000kms a year.. which I will never do..
My Car is also garaged every night locked in a yard...
BUT nothing like the cost of "normal" car insurances...
I don't know of any companies that will insure racing or drag cars.. as the sign say - Motor Racing is a Dangerous sport...
NRMA classic car insurance is different to the normal NRMA insurance... so make sure You contact the correct company.

Lumley's has a classic car policy LSV (Lumley Special Vehicles). Parent company being Wesfarmers General Insurance Limited.
LSV is very well priced. You must check the policy suits your vehicle and your usage. They wont insure two of our cars, but the policy price for
another car was more than 50% less than another company with double the agreed value allowed.

I have all my vehicles with shannons. They are by far the best insurance company I have even delt with. Customer service is tops, pricing is great. As
an added bonus, you can get cheaper greenslips for vehicles registered with them. Plus if you have multiple vehicles, you get discounts on the
insurance premium.
Thats not rust, it's ah ... orange primer ... yep that's what it is ...

Yep, Shannons gets my vote - discounts for multiple policies, a pleasure to deal with, as LEE said they do pay by the month if you need too. I
haven't had any problems to speak of and have had a number of motorbikes and cars with them over several years.

I called Shannons for my '73 Type 3 and they said they wouldn't insure me  Allianz said they wouldn't insure me either. I'm 25 and never had an accident! NRMA insured me and I pay $350 for agreed value. I
have no idea about salvageable rights though.

You have to be carefull with the "written off" bit Lee. I purchased a 69 type 3 from a wreckers here at Riverstone with sort of minor damage (to
me) back in about 1995. I repaired it and painted it and it looked great. Went through blue slip with flying colours. Went to motor registry for
registration to be informed that they had it on the written off vehicles register. Back then I had to get a stat dec from a licenced repairer that
all repairs were done to a satisfactory standard. I think things have tightened up in NSW more in recent years. Worth enquiring on that.

I didn't know about that registry Dallas...
but not surprised as most countries have them now..
If written off You just need another chassis number... lol
lots of beetles out there with wrong chassis numbers..lol
