shifters

Hi,

So I'm looking at getting a nice durable shifter. I've read through a few of the previous posts on here about shifters (like which one is better - Scat, Empi, Berg etc) but unfortunately I don't like the t-handle or hurst style.

The style I do like are the following:
http://www.dtmengineering.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&...
and
http://www.pacificcustoms.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=A...

Thoughts? Experiences? Any others out there? Also, with the pacificcustoms one, how is it connected to the existing beetle setup?

Thanks for all you help.

ask mustard what he thinks of my berg, that was in micks58, personally LOVE it, driven a few times, not automatically hitting the button with my thumb anymore so its nice, would still prefer a normal ball type handle though & was considering the bugtech, its INSANELY short in throw, more so than the berg, tried it in the salt flats bug at the last nationals, that said for a cheap option the 20ish mm spacer thing that sits under a stock one isnt bad for a few $$ compared to $200-500...

MODS - this would almost be worth being a sticky thread, shifters seem to be a decent topic & if it stays clean/on topic.... would help to have a record that was easy to find, especially if some people have had experiences with several options :tu:

i have looked at that one before. So how does it go in a RHD? like with the reverse lock lever?

it is RHD / LHD neutral

It is just a dual finger pull up that sits out of the way until you need reverse
Throw is nice and quality is brilliant
Very nice bit of kit

I'd love a Berg or CSP, but it's hard to justify the cost.

I agree the "quick shift kit" works really well if your shift rod bushing and hanger are tight, but I like the idea of the better reverse lockout - does anyone here have experience with the cheap Hurst and Berg copies?

I endd up puying the empi finger pull shifter. The people on here suggested it was ok but, has a tendancy to fall apart/ pop rivets fall out on the main housing. But... that being said it is easily fixable, especially if you do that mod first... i will have a look but i believe i went through the same exercise an someone put up pics of the mod. The shifter was cheap and should give me years of good service.

OK, feel like a bit of a grave digger, but anyone got any experience with the BugTech ???

Currently have an Empi Hurst style... it's been OK, but thinking want something with a bit shorter throw.

Options I'm considering are Berg with Ball, BugTech and CSP.

Have read the HotVWs writeup at http://www.facebook.com/media/set/fbx/?set=a.125821007489770.26554.1114132622... but surprise surprise, it's a bit light on real info.

I have one of those in my Ghia (temporarily).... I'll be fitting it to my drag car soon... The BERG that is currently in the drag car will go into the Ghia.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Melburg-Radilaide%20Trip/IMG_1613.jpg

Fitted it to help with the crappy stock shifter that was in the car when I bought it.... I had replaced the shift coupler earlier that day which really helped, but when I fitted the Black Mamba, the difference was amazing.... Never have a fitted a shifter into a VW so easily.... It needed almost no adjustment, the throw was very short and precise, the ball fell to the hand very nicely as it sits a little taller and a little further back than a stocker, and it made the drive back to Perth (from Adelaide) an absolute dream...

I got mine from B4, but I know that Boris (Vintage) is the national importer.

Highly recommended...
