Ghia Chassis Interest?
I am looking at getting an IRS chassis for my 61 ghia and so will not need the current chassis. I have just had it soda blasted and primed. It is
complete and the only rust is small section in pan behind the drivers seat. Also has sway bar and front disc brakes, from what i can find out they
were a kit fitted in the 80's. also original wheels and hubcaps included. Will try and post some pics. Looking at offers over $1000 In no rush as
using to move ghia around. PM me or email me;

Hey why don't you convert your orignal chassis to IRS. Not too hard i think. Could be easier. Unless you have sourced an IRS one

I know you can get a jig from Pacific Customs for $100, but has anyone done it yet? and finding the right person to do it as I think way beyond my
abilities. In the article in Hot VW's that talks about doing the conversion , they say it talks a qualified welder 4 hours. Any volunteers?

Vintage have a jig for doing the conversion fair bit of welding and measuring in volved to get it right
also you need the trailing arms and spring plates etc etc
Is the floor pan stripped from the body

I can help with the spring plates,etc,in fact I have a couple of rear sections of S bug pans with suspension that I need to move.

The chassis is detached, currently have the body sitting on it so can move around, mind you the left rear drum has locked.

Mate no doubt it is a bigger job but if your pan is good. My KG has been converted to IRS. I didn't do it but got it that way. Get the jig and you
can't go wrong if you can find a good welder.

Good idea to convert the original. My mate did his early kg and told me it wouldn't be to much of a hassle doing mine if I chose to. Sounds like you
have a fair bit of support on here to get you through it ok ^^

Have a great deal on a freshly powder coated 74 IRS ghia chassis, new brakes in fact new everything that can be replaced has, but LHD and is $2000
which when I start to price out what i would need to get and do is not bad. still needs pans.

I thought the only difference between a ghia chassis and a beetle chassis is the pans themselves and the napoleons hat? Someone else may be able to
confirm it but it may be a cheaper way to go. Chassis number will not be ghia though.

but if you use a 74 chassis your effectively turning your car into a 74 karmann...kinda (going by chassis numbers). Im not one of those full on keep
it as original as it was when new guys but i definitely wouldn't want half a car from one period (the unflattering period to many) and the other half
from the desirable period. Id still look seriously at modifying the original...Then you also don't need the hassle of the right hand conversion.

I see what you mean, I would i guess then need to apply with the 74 regulations, high back seats, 3 point seat belts etc. which is not the style I
was going for. Guess I just need to find an IRS beetle auto stick chassis, or a good welder. any ideas of who in Sydney? or surrounds. Thanks for the
help guys.

I went out to CBB yesterday to drop my sons car in to have his turbo 2180cc engine installed in his 74L-Bug and I spoke with Chris about converting my
Chassis to IRS and its not as tough as I had thought. If I go with thiswill make life a lot easier leaving the papers all intact for rego etc. thanks
for help.

No worries  ...like i said im no expert but when my mate (whom is
going to help fix my car) told me he'd done it he made it sound like it wasn't that big a deal lol. Yes the less worries the better...and the
sooner you'll be driving it
