Wiring harness for VW beetle
Does anyone know where i can get a new wiring harness for a VW beetle
Also my car is 68 chassi and 64 body, doe the 62 model harness fit.

Make sure that you pull a draw-wire through - attached to the old harness, when you remove it. It will make it easier to fit a new one. I think the RH
drive harness is different to LHD?
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Heh... prolly won't need a pull through wire on a convertible Greg !!!

RHD and LHD harness's are definitely different, and a 68 harness is definitely different to a 62 (regulator under the back seat... more fuses...
emergency lights etc.)
You'd probably want a 64 harness really, tho a 62 would basically be the same I think (no real big electrical differences in those years AFAIK)
Have you tried the usual places here like Vintage VeeDub, Classic, Mick Motor's etc. ???

i found one at vintage wiring harness in melbourne but they only have 62 model, they said that they can add more wires if it needs it.
not sure what to do

IT WOULD IF YOU ARE WIRING IT AS A 1964 BEETLE...
HEADLAMP DIPPER ON THE FLOOR...
starter switch in dash..
fuse box would be the same... etc
not sure where the regulator is...
without looking it up..

According to my Gregory's manual the wiring diagram for a 62 and 64 are the same.
So you should be OK if your car is wired as a 64.... where are your high beam and ignition switches at the moment ???
Oh and Lee... 62 and 64 both have the regulator on top of the generator.

Can you disclose how much they are after for the wiring harness as I need to do my 61 Beetle. I was thinking of making my own complete wiring harness
as I will also be having electrically operated oil temp, oil pressure, tacho, and battery voltage.
Surely cant be that hard to run a dozen or so wires through the roof and connect to whatever. Just make sure I have numerous wiring colours and record
what I connect them to.
Also is the 62 wiring harness made for 6V or 12V. I know people say its ok to run 12v through 6v wiring, but I would rather a heavier gauge wire.

It is not just volts that makes the wire require heavier gauge. It is Amps. So a 6 volt wiring loom can easily run 12 volts.

Camo, the 6V wiring would actually need to be heavier than 12V, because it has to carry twice the current (amps) to deliver the same power. This is
why the car makers are keen to go to 48/60V in the near future. Running four times the voltage means that you only need 1/4 of the amps for the same
power rating, so your wiring can be much thinner and lighter. This comes in handy when you're talking about 10kW alternators and similar things.

i just ran 7 core trailer wire down the back through the roof chanel. i run all electric gauges and thaco on a subaru motor and seams to be fine,
whats more only cost me 30 for 10m or wire, a lot cheaper even after i bought solder shrink wrap and crips than buying a loom that didnt even have
enough wires for what i needed.
only problem that it creates is knowing what goes where.
the dipper swich on the floor, does anyone know how it is ment to be wired up?

for that money, you would be better off with the Watsons Street Works loom. Given the strength of the Aussie $, its a lot cheaper and no exposed
terminals.

Hi
For extra wires for gauges etc I use 7 core trailer wire from front to back, also the wires run along the floor next to the heater channels, not in
the roof.
