Steering Wheel Wot sort????
I just picked up this timber steering wheel (sorry about the quality of the pic) and are wondering what it is and what its worth?
It fits directly to a 64 beetle with no boss kit. Made in Italy. Code on the front of wheel F.I.V.
The timber is cracked but seems to be repairable by someone in the know.
just wondering if it is worth getting someone to restiore it correctly or attempt the job myself.

Wow - looks great!
Looks like and Alfa Romeo wheel.
There are some professional wheel restorers but when i got mine it was all cracked. I just carefully sanded it back and sprayed estapol on.
It was a darker colour but is now light. I actually like how it is still dark in the finger dents.
The wood is not solid but some real thin veneer and the cracks were in the this. I sanded them smooth-ish and the estapol filled them up. Another sand
and another spray.
I like how yours bolts straigh on though and is a larger diameter

no i didn't get in trouble, it was dark when we unloaded everything, so it waited till the morning.
the wheel came off the baja. the beetle is also a 64 so fits straight on. sanded it back and found all the cracks, its cracked to buggery.
so i'm thinking lots of glue, putty and then a dark stain to hide everything. |
