Brasillian bumper after 5 years on the car...

Well
We have all heard about the Brasillian made bumpers going rusty fast...

this bumper was still in a plastic bag when I got it
5 years ago...

My Son found it in an antique shop... true...

I wax it with Meguiar's wax every week or so....
and especially after its been in rain....

so, a Brasillian bumper can last more than a week without rusting...

but with so many factories making VW Parts in Brasil..
We will never know who actually made it....
as We never know who made the brasillian parts We buy all the time...??

Lee

PS: the makers name and address was on the plastic bag it came in...?? 5 years ago... lol

Very Happy for you that your bumper is going well. I think the main reason is that you most likely garage your bug and don't live 1 street back from the Beach like me haha people like me have very rusty brazian bumpers. Im gladd ours havent gone yet lol.

Thats one thing I gotta give VW, chrome quality

Wondering around VW grave yards the German bumpers and all trim for that matter are still perfect usually on cars sitting out in the elements for decades

The people that owned the other bug at the wedding I did a few weeks ago had brazillian bumpers on it but they had them rechromed first, if it wasnt for the thickness they'd pass for german ones

And don't forget that for 1967 and earlier, it's quality Australian-made Volkswagen chrome!

Yes new Brazilian parts come up a treat when they're properly re-chromed. I did that with my Kombi's hubcaps and headlight surrounds when I bought new replacements; I had them done by Blu Chrome at Condell Park. They did a good job and after 5 years they come up like new after a wash and a rub with dry steel wool. I wish I had Lee's perserverence but my VWs only get a wash and seeing to once or twice a month.

I just love the smell of wax early in the morning...

Phil..
My original bumpers are sitting on a shed roof and I noticed that they weren't rusted.. shame they were dented...
I also have a set of new late hubcaps which were rechromed in early 70s and never been on a car...
fellow who sold them to Me , said His Father had them done and never good around to fitting them to his beetle...

My front bumper is off a 1302S superbug..
and no signs of it rusting...

shame the brasillian bumpers are so thin....
a good kick could dent them....

My rear brasillian Bumper ... It looks like its waiting to rust...
I can see the imperfections when looked at closely especially
under the bottom...

LEE

Sorry Guys,
I've got to go and polish that bumper....
looks like a storm coming ... :lol::lol::lol:

Visions of Ted Bullpitt.

You're not taking the Beetle, I've just Maguired the bumpers / shampooed the gearstick / Baygonned the hubcaps / painted the coil

Ian,
I drove it to Muswellbrook on Wednesday to get passed for Rego...
[I suppose it does help to be under cover]

rained all the way there and back... lol

Good weather to check the wipers... :lol

Mechanic [not rego one] said I needed new tail lamp lenses
I said they are new ones...

He said, Your Bulbs must be too bright...
He also thought My front parking lights were the headlamps..
as i have 10 watt Halogen bulbs for parking lights...
