2332cc with 911 fanshroud - what cooling is recommended?
Hi all,
I'm based in Brisbane, and am looking at getting a 2332cc stroker with a 911 fanshroud.
I've been getting different advice as to what cooling is required for this size/configuration engine.
I'll be mainly using this as a daily suburban driving during the week (nothing more than a 30 mindrive) with maybe an hour or so of highway driving
every few weeks.
Obviously,with the 911 fanshroud, there is no stock cooler so I'll at least need a 96-row fan assisted external cooler.
My question is this: with the extra heat this engine makes, and given I'm in Queensland, will I need an additional cooler (I'm thinking another
96-row fan assisted cooler on the other side). Or this is overkill?

This is a huge subject.....but in short
major variances in the actual engine and where/who builds it, butwith this aside, IMO I'd be happy with the remote cooler with oil thermostat and
auto fan control, if the directional vanes are used on the fan and the primary objective of getting enough air into the engine bay is sorted, so
depending on the model of beetle, you'll need a propped decklid (top only for me) or a vented decklid, with all the appropriate sealing around the
engine bay.

"directional vanes" being the operative and very important point Matt has raised, make sure the housing has them. Also, in terms of cooling and
efficiency, compression and a good chamber squish can be your friend.

The engine will be going into a 1970 1500 bug, with the 2 sets of vents.
I've also considered cutting a vent on the deck lid in between the licence plate light and licence plate. That should be about where the fan entry
point would be. I've seen something similar on later Superbugs. Is this something worth doing?
And how much extra oil does the external line and oil cooler take up? (I'm planning on having a 3.5 quart sump added).

hi just watching the tread and i may have some info i have not used that engine but cooling is cooling,i found that the more oil you can use the
cooler it will be,i used a gearbox oil cooler of a r truck that held i liter of oil than a remote oil filter and a deep sump i managed to end up with
5.5 lites oil solved all my cooling problems

I like the extra air available by putting holes under the number plate on standoffs. But I think I'd head towards a 4 vent lid. vw thought it
necessary for a stock engine.
