not vw -New Fiesta- spare wheel -optional extra
Read in today's paper that the new model Ford Fiesta made in Thailand instead of Germany don't come with a spare wheel..
its available as an option...
I wonder if you get a jack??? or wheel spanner??
space savers must be too expensive...

I went Car shopping with my Partner last week she was really interested in the Fiesta but when she lifted the boot and asked the salsmen where the
spare was he showed her a type of puncture repair kit and an air pump she just turned around and walked out The idiot salsmen told me that whe weight
of a spare wheel would increase the fuel economy what does he take me for an idiot ??? The big problem is most cars have these space saver spares and
being in her 70s and doing long miles the first thing she checkes is for a full size spare . She brought a Yarris

It would probably surprise you to know how many cars these days don't come with a spare, most Peugeots haven't for years
And space saver tyres ain't cheap either, I priced just a tyre a few weeks ago......$259  for something that looks like it belongs on a wheelbarrow

Hi
The panel beater doing my bug asked me for help on taking the fane belt of one of these type of Euro buzz boxes.
There is no adjustment, you cut the old belt off and the new one is flicked on with a tool supplied with the belt.
My Hilux work ute has no spare, the space for the spare is filled up with the LPG tank, I have done 50,000+ and have only had one puncture, not a big
deal when you have a compressor on board.

you do not require a spare wheel to pass a road worthy inspection, but if you do it is then included in the inspection

yeah stupid car makers . making in tank fuel filters,
run flat tyres that cost $400 bucks ,
no adjusters on drive belts, no bloody throttle cable  ,
plastic manifolds and even no dip stick to check engine oil

I believe many Porsches, Ferraris, lambos, etc don't have a spare wheel
as they are huge and very wide they would have to have them on the bonnet like old land rovers... lol
or on the roof... lol
Talking about land rovers...
they were designed a long long time ago.....
and there was never any roof for the spare wheel...
so, they stuck it on the aluminium bonnet...
now that bonnet was very light until You stick a large steel wheel with a heavy duty tyre on it...
how anyone ever checked the oil...??
and even NOW.. an australian number plate will not fit under the number plate light under the left hand tail lamp...
on a 110 defender... the rear door is too wide...
so, the edges are usually cut off... lol
The Australian Armed forces Land rovers 110 ute types
had added extra body at the rear so a spare could sit behind the rear axle... these were especially made...

I don't think I've ever had a spare wheel/tyre inspected...
usually too much trouble...
I did see a mechanic check the water in a rear window washer years ago... no water.... YIKES...
How unsafe is that... 
One thing I would like checked is headlight aim...
even new cars can have an out of alignment headlight...

You are right about headlight aim, Lee. Nearly getting blinded by some zillion watt quartz xenon beam, aimed too high, aint much fun.
On the spare wheel thing - a lot of cars don't have them now. Most interstate trucks don't either - they can carry that extra weight as payload, and
think of the interest they can earn on the money they save. There are tyre service depots close to the main trucking routes, with fully equipped
vehicles, ready to get them going quickly.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

I realise that in cities You don't really need a spare tyre..
but out in the country where there is also NO Mobile phone coverage... You do need a spare...
although wondering about this fix a puncture bottled stuff..
Is it OK to fix a punture ??
then again I carried a flat spare tyre for about 4 years.. lol
as the tyre was too big to fit into the beetle..
I now have another brand of tyre... same size...
as fits in easily.... ?? even when pumped up... lol

I remember years ago guy I knew got a new EA Falcon... the dealer told him he was only allowed to touch things under the bonnet that were yellow
otherwise he'd void the warranty. Washer cap was yellow, battery caps were yellow, radiator cap was yellow and trans dipstick handle was yellow.
Engine dip stick handle tho was black, so he never checked it !!!

I've got a 2009 Suzuki Swift Sport. It doesn't come with a spare wheel. Like ArtyP mentioned, it comes with a tyre puncture repair kit. I asked what
I'm supposed to do if the tyre is torn and can't be repaired, he told me to call NRMA

the early irs was a bit crap and wears inside edges of tyres. I reckon the SV6 is pretty good value. If only I could go back a few years.

The wheel brace also doesn't have the correct 90 degree angle so when when you try to undo a nut the wheel brace is trying to break the nut off the
stud, someone could die in because of this stupidity from car makers.

yes the sv6 is nice but hard to find one that hasn't been trashed. hence the berlina as they are the luxury model that richer people tend to buy and
keep in better condition.
If I get one latter on, its out with the engine, auto, diff, tailshaft, exhaust and all suspension and steering/brake components. Then replace
everything. SRE engine(fully balanced) with low boost single turbo, new/reco T5 tranny, new/reco isr LSD diff, rebuild tailshaft, new PS rack, new
superpro rubbers and joints all round, new rotors, new good exhaust blah blah.
Basically rebuild the car mechanically ground up plus the performance mods. I did this exact thing to my vp minus the turbo of course oh and I could not do the diff on my vp as it seems very hard to find
anyone who can rebuild them or even replacement centers/C&P but the irs diffs are everywhere  Also I just don't want to deal with
live axle anymore handles like crap, the paint on the vp is appalling,
all plastic/rubber parts are failing and non replaceable. eg outer window scrapers are 250 buks for a set of 4
A external rubber/seal kit (not including the scrapers is............ 1500 buks yep I gave up right there. better to just buy that nice VR and
concentrate the running gear, suspension/brakes.
this one is nice  dam the paint looks great. Mine looks and feels like 80
grit sand paper.

My Wife has got a Swift Sport, it got a slow puncture and we took it in for repair. The tyre shop took the tyre off and said they couldnt repair it
coz it was punctured too near to the sidewall. They didn`t have any tyres in stock and refused to patch up the tyre until they got them in so we ended
up getting stranded for over 24 hours at Kmar tyre and Auto!!!
Turns out theres a big bloody muffler where the spare normally goes!!

Commodores, Falcons, Suzukis, Evos, Fiestas ??
Maybe a Volkswagen would be a better idea. Here's a Golf VR6 for $4,000 - a much better car than an old Commodore and it's got the right badge on
the front. IRS. German paint. And it has a spare tyre. 128 kW, 0-100 in 7.1 sec and 224 km/h top speed. 12 L/100 km city, 9.9 highway.

there is nothing wrong with a good old crumpledore. I only like type 3, KG and 914 in the vw family and I wouldn't normally make em a daily.
My commy isn't even driven that much as I try to drive little as possible. on average I do only 5000km
besides my old bomb does 0-100 in 7 sec 6.5L/100 on highway and 9-10L/100 in town. 750km per 55L tank average
car has 198k diff also, T5 has 395k, engine somewhere between 30-80k(barn find lol) rest of the brakes, suspension, steering and clutch has 6K on it
so far.
whats that point of getting anything new? I just want a VR coz i recon they were the best looking holden ever made and I can't stand the shit paint
and plastic this drought caused on my vp.
Probably do this next year when (if) I get a job.
