Traction bar.....
Right, so i've decided to give the stock 1500 swinger gearbox a go in my budget drag car project.... Now i'm trying to figure out how i'm gonna
give that gearbox the longest possible life i can, It will be solid mounted with the intermediate mount from CIP1 and the rear solid mount also, I
will be fabricating something like a kafer cup bar but it will basically be 1"rhs tieing the frame horns to the shock towers, Now the question is: i
have been looking at these traction bars that support the rear of the engine to stop wheel hop.... They say it supports the engine when it tries to
push down with tourqe....

Does this seem like something usefull? or will all the other stuff be enough?
thanks
Mick.

Andrew Westwood was running one of these on his Rat Racer drag car at Warwick this year. Might want to flick Oztowdster a PM and ask him about it if
you want details.

The 'other stuff' (done right) should be enough - spend your hard-earned on something useful.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Hi
I've never liked those units that Berg used. I feel that they put too much force in a weak part of the body. The price is bit rich for a length of 25
mm square tube and some threaded rod and nuts.
On my sons bug we used a 3 bar Kafer cup setup with a Berg style front mount, he ran at Warwick in 2008 & 2009 without any issues.
I needed to make similar Kafer cup bar for my bug, I bought 6 x 3/8 rose joints with weld in slugs from eBay UK for about $65 and 2 metres of 3/4 ID
moly tube for $50, so with a bit of cutting and welding I made a Kafer cup bar for around $115.

As above, do the other stuff properly and it's not required, that thin wall tube wouldn't do much anyway, and worst part is the body fatigues and
cracks from the load. I've seen a car (won't mention names) where nearly every spotweld had popped around the firewall and the whole tail/apron was
good to support nothing.
