Sound Insulation
Hi all, any advice on good sound insulation for a Beetle? Looked on thesamba.com and see lots of talk about FatMat and B-Quiet but i imagine you cant
find that stuff in Australia.
Anyone recommend foil roof insulation or similar?
At the moment I just have carpet on bare metal, I intend to strip the carpet out, paint the floor, install insulation then carpet, will this do the
job? Are the original tar boards worth buying?
Thanks a lot

Thanks for that Barls, I was going to reply to this thread earlier with that link but couldn't find the thread!
Dynamat is expensive but if you want to get it, then the cheapest way seems to be buying a bulk pack off eBay. Mind you, that will set you back
$240...

dynamat has two small disadvantages- weight and cost-
it would probably be OK for the floors and chassis...
but I used two layers of pve yoga mat foam..
waterproof - weighs nothing- and costs very little...
I used it every where.. over the roof.. above the gearbox around the engine and on the rear valance and under the guards...
I did under the carpets on My lancer and it didn;t seem to make any difference as far as noise goes...
but it stops heat.... ...
I have seen the silver paper either side with bubble wrap inside.. it may work too??
but dynamat does work.....
My Son has just done his kombi with it...
The tar or whatever is inside the dynamat stops noise etc...
cheers
