BLOODY STONES, going to need new W/Screen

ok guys,
can you buy new windscreens for late model flat screen bugs from your run of the mill windscreens obrien type place or do you have to go second hand or another avenue?
Can you get all new glass from a windscreens obrien?

bottom line: i am going to need a new windscreen soon as the crack in it is about 3 inches long and i feel that it may spread.:(

windscreens O'Brien is kinda pricey, but they do have them. mines an ex-windscreens O'Brien windscreen, which was about a day old before i flung sparks from an angle grinder at it.... oop. themn i was hit by a vicious chunk of blue metal, and since then i've had a 30cm long crack in the glass. shop around. and then look after it. and watch them fit it, it looks sooo easy ;)

Also look at Windscreen Discounts.

Got a quote of O'Briens for a dunny-door once.
Near on $300

Tried Windscreen Discounts and they were $180!!

That is not the point - the point is once i got my invoice in the corner was the "Division of O'Briens" stamp!!

Asked the guy and he said - "yep same glass buddy!"

Hopefully they have one up your way!

Windscreens O'Brien couldn't give me an exact figure when I rang them up earlier this year after a lawnmower man flicked a stone the way of my rear window (freak occurence went right across the road form where he was) and said it could be anywhere up to $700!!!!

I got scared off and was strapped for cash at the time and needed to take my kids here and there so I settled for a 2nd hand window. One day I'd like to get it replaced as it has lots of scratches on it but that won't be until a few more leaves grow back on the money tree :(

You should never have to pay any more than $180-190 for a common front screen supplied & fitted.
That includes just about all cars except exotic, rare & some prestige.
If you can be there while they do it, ask them to show you any rust they may find, and be a little inquisitive. You will probably find they will make sure they clean up the old sealer a bit better for you if they see you are watching.

I've fitted dozens of front screens myself, but I still get a lot fitted by window fitters, as it only costs about $60 more than the glass.

As for the rear glass for a kombi. I got a new rubber kit from VVDS, but most of the suppliers and sponsors on this forum can help. A good second hand glass, and fit it yourself, or get a handy friend to help. If not, a window mob can do it in 5 minutes for $60 max.

Front screens are always harder to do as they are laminated glass and crack easily. Side and rear glass is really tough, and can handle a pounding.
