TOP GEAR .....new season / baggin gthe beetle
Just finished watching the first episode on season 16, and Hammond gives the beetle a huge bagging, he drags a stock 1300 against a brand new Porsche,
then in the next race they drop the beetle form a mile in the air while Hammond has to cover the same distance on the ground in his Porsche.
Its a funny segment, but they don't need to be SO passionate about bagging the VW : (
I am sure there are plenty of VW's around that could tear Hammond and his Porsche a new one

I love top gear and I love vw's. Suggest we focus on their hatred of Morris marinas. I know they have wrecked a bunch of them.

Yeah, they're allowed to hate the Beetle if they want. The Beetle will carry on regardless and outlast them. I suppose they're from a period towards
the later days of Beetle production when it was just a really noisy, outdated and slow car. Don't forget that in Europe many Beetles were
1200cc-powered even in the '70s and in UK weather they would have mostly been fairly rusty. I can see how someone might dislike a car like that. Now,
driving a Beetle in good condition is a breath of fresh air compared to the boring, characterless appliances which are modern small cars. But I can
see that if you were a young lad in the '70s then the Beetle would've been hideous, and if you lived in the UK then you probably dreamed of a Ford
Escort RS2000 or something similar.

I did enjoy that segment on the show. The rest of the episode was a bit boring. I'm a huge Top Gear fan and I think they're a bit bored with the
show now.

One thing he seems to have overlooked he obviously forgot the origins of Porsche!, Richard compare the engines, what they look very similar!
How can they overlook the production run if you are really into cars the Beetle has to rate! Without the Beetle would Porsche have produced the 356,
911 etc, etc.
Remember that episode when they drove across an African desert, who kept plodding along in the background!
Let them bag the Beetle!

They even bag decent supercars.Clarkson bags Lambo's,yet buys a Ford GT.
Ive read tests on both and the Lambo always wins in overall comparisons against the GT,not just outright horsepower or whatever.
Whatever floats ya boat I spose.I'd rather own and drive my Karmann Ghia than a $100,000 Monaro, but try saying that to a Monaro owner!
A good point was made by Dubbyfan, with the referance to the origins of Porsche.Would they exist now without the first VW?
My 'non car enthusiast' dad has always said since I can remember that a Porsche is just a glorified VW.He's got a point (though I'd still buy a
Porsche tomorrow if I could)
If anyone actually listens to what some over paid TV presenters say (as that is what they are) and doesnt buy a particular car on their advice, then
theyre just f@#$ing idiots
They do it for ratings, thats it

Are there any left?
Yes, good point Luftmeister. VW do own them I believe.
On Tuesday nights mates and I do like a progressive dinner thing but I choose to stay home tonight. Bit over the commercial aspect and it is getting
stale.
Glad I missed the Beetle slagging episode.
